Listening to God
I love reading books. There is
something so wonderful about sitting there on the couch or in a
comfy chair and opening your imagination to the worlds that books
open. There are other kinds of books though. Listening to God is a
devotional, and one of the best I have read this year. It comes to
us from Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz. It is written from God's
perspective. Yes I know that will cause some controversy. I don't
agree with everything in Listening to God. But I respect the time
and effort they put into it. Plus there is a Bible verse for every
			single day.

Weeks in Listening to God are broken out by days. Monday is about
God. Tuesday is about His Son Jesus Christ. Wednesday is about the
Holy Spirit. Thursday is about God's word. Friday is about your
life. Saturday is about the world. Sunday is about the church. Going
from day to day like this provides some nice diversity. It also adds
some structure and continuity because I know what is going to be the
topic of any given day. Listening to God takes readers through an
entire year. Since I did not want the nice people who sent us a copy
to wait an entire year I went through Listening to God much quicker.

Going through Listening to God faster cost me one small thing. I was
not able to dwell on one topic all day long. Again it would have
taken me an entire year to do that. Not something I felt was
appropriate in terms of coverage. I do believe families can get some
interesting thoughts about Listening to God. If you feel it is
presumptuous of them to speak for God then you will pass on this
book. If you would like reminders on things like church unity, and
following God with all your heart then you will be very interested
			in Listening to God.

At times I felt Listening to God was being a little too politically
correct. Ya'll know how I feel about political correctness. Other
times they are challenging cultural things that I have preached
against for years. I love every single time the authors of Listening
to God point people to God. One of the things I have done for
decades is point people to God. It is not about me, and I don't care
what anyone thinks about me. It is about you and God. Get that
relationship, and work on walking the path God has laid before us.
The opposite is arrogantly saying you know better than God.

I found Listening to God to be very encouraging and uplifting. One
of the best books I have read all year long. Although Listening to
God feels more like a study guide to me.
			God bless you and yours,
