Mindshapes Plants Jack and the Beanstalk for iOS

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO - July 27, in the year of our Lord 2011 -- Mindshapes presents a new standard in interactive educational apps, designed around academic principles, that will keep kids fascinated and draw them back to read more. Jack and the Beanstalk by Mindshapes is the first of a new range of products from the company designed for the iPad® that unleashes its potential to become an educational toy. Each page of the app is highly immersive, with tasks that they can complete to progress the story, including:

· Swiping and tapping the cloud to generate rain in order to see the beanstalk grow

· Gathering the plates and loading the dishwasher to create bubbles

The classic fairy tale is re-interpreted through beautifully crafted animation, injected with cheeky humor, produced by Mindshapes' award-winning design and animation team. The challenges and interactions have been overseen by Mindshapes' educational consultants to develop a range of skills through play:

· Developing fine motor skills: Children can use the accelerometer to control the flight of Jack up and down the beanstalk

· Language development: The app gives parents the option to select either 'Read by Myself' or 'Read to Me,' highlighting the words being read to help the emerging reader

· Understanding basic physics: Children play with the magic beans and bounce them around the screen, colliding and falling in accordance with Newtonian laws

"We found that while parents are excited by the opportunity that iPads offer to distract their kids, they are rightly concerned that the content should deliver a genuine learning experience," commented Jinhee Ahn Kim, director of product development. "Mindshapes wants to give kids fun, packaged around a solid educational core."

"We set out to use beautiful design, captivating animation and engaging interactivity to create a story built into an app," added Federico Selmi, creative director. "Kids will want to keep coming back to Jack and the Beanstalk by Mindshapes, and will improve their skills upon every visit."

Jack and the Beanstalk by Mindshapes is available on the App Store for $2.99.

A colorful trailer for the app can be viewed on YouTube.
