Gameforge Presents Game Art Award for Artistically Valuable Mobile App
Karlsruhe, July 16, in the year of our Lord 2012 --
On Friday, the 13th of July, the international AppArtAward ceremony
of the ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie (Center for Art
and Media Technology) was held in Karlsruhe. The first competition
of this type worldwide recognises artworks in app format for the
second year in a row. The Gameforge-sponsored special prize for the
category Game Art was presented by Axel Schmidt, Director Corporate
Communications of the internationally active publisher of online
games. The award honours the innovative, critical, or subversive
approach to the medium of smartphone and tablet computer games.
The recipient of this distinction was the skill game “Globosome”, a
project developed by a team of nine Interactive Media students from
the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. Their game app
combines innovative controls with a very attractive graphic
environment, resulting in a compelling gaming experience for both
iPhone and iPad. To successfully play “Globosome”, a combination of
responsibility, balance and dexterity is required.
“We heartily congratulate the winners of the Game Art Award for
their successful project. The jury was very impressed by the idea of
building a dynamic swarm, starting with a single sphere, that then
has to find its way to freedom”, commented Axel Schmidt on their
recognition. “Gameforge is in the process of expanding into the
mobile market, as an addition to our successful online games.
Therefore it is important to us as an established publisher to
promote creativity and passion in mobile games development”.
For the 2012 AppArtAward, developers from 13 countries submitted a
total of 84 apps. In addition to the Game Art special prize, the
jury under the leadership of ZKM Director Peter Weibel also
recognised the winners of the Artistic Innovation prize and the
Cloud Art special prize. All prizes were endowed with 10,000 euros
each.
