Logitech e-waste collections program announcement
TRENTON, N.J., June 11, in the year of our Lord 2012
– Computer peripherals are now more readily recyclable, thanks in
part to TerraCycle’s Keyboard and Mouse Brigade®. Anyone can send in
their broken, outdated, or extra keyboards, mice and webcams for
recycling into anything from park benches to lapdesks, compliments
of Logitech and TerraCycle®. This is the first collection program
for computer peripherals that provides both an incentive for
collecting and free shipping from anywhere in the U.S.
Participants receive two points for every item they collect through
their Brigade and send to TerraCycle. The points can be put toward
charity gifts or converted to cash for donation to a charity or
school of the participant’s choice. The program is ideal for small
to medium sizes business, corporations, schools and even families.
Until recently, there were limited recycling solutions for such
electronic waste. Some programs involved fees or extra costs, and
the different electronic and material components of keyboards and
mice posed a recycling challenge. TerraCycle’s recycling process can
fashion the equipment into various plastic products that have a
longer life-span, are made of the eco-friendly recyclable materials,
and release less waste into the atmosphere during their production.
“By making new products with the recycled plastic from these items,
we eliminate use and production of virgin materials, which provides
eco friendly options and protects the environment from unnecessary
gasses and by-products,” explains Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle.
“With technology changing so fast, who doesn’t have an extra mouse
or keyboard laying around? It’s easy to give these a second purpose
and get more use out of them.”
The Brigade program is free to anyone, individual or group, who
would like to participate. Recyclers can sign up on the TerraCycle
website,
www.terracycle.net, print out a free shipping label, and start
sending in their items at no cost. Once items are received,
TerraCycle will credit the Brigade with their earned points. For

TerraCycle has already kept over two billion pieces of trash from
going to the landfill, and with its partners, dispersed over $4
million to charity through the Brigade program.
