Namco Bandai Games Announces Tekken card Tournament
The First Cross Media Project based on the TEKKEN Franchise will be available this Year
SAN JOSE, Calif., (January
21, in the year of our Lord 2013) – NAMCO BANDAI Games
America Inc. and Bandai Inc. today announced that TEKKEN CARD
TOURNAMENT™ will soon be available in both North America and
South America. TEKKEN CARD TOURNAMENT will bring the popular
TEKKEN franchise to the card battle genre in two different
phases: A free-to-play online card battle game for tablets,
smartphones and web browsers will be available in the next few
weeks, while physical booster card packs will arrive in stores
later in the year.
TEKKEN CARD TOURNAMENT seamlessly integrates Namco’s high
pedigree of fighting titles with Bandai’s expertise with
physical card games by allowing the interactive card battle
title to interact with the physical cards. The physical game
booster packs available at retailers later this year can be
played as a standalone card game, or added in players’ virtual
game card deck by QR Code scanning. Scanning the game cards will
give upgrades to online game characters or add a new character
to the roster. In addition an Augmented Reality feature lets
TEKKEN characters populate the real world simply by pointing a
smartphone or tablet camera at the game cards.
The digital game can also be played as a standalone, allowing
players to enter the King of Iron Fist tournament by competing
in this unique free-to-play game set in the TEKKEN universe. The
digital game will offer a unique gameplay experience but also
amazing visuals on all devices. Strategically prepare your card
deck and compete against players across all platforms anytime
and everywhere.
“TEKKEN CARD TOURNAMENT leverages our company’s core strengths
in both interactive entertainment and toys to create a crossover
product that fans of both forms of entertainment can enjoy,”
said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing for NAMCO BANDAI
Games America Inc. “The TEKKEN series has enjoyed more than 40
million unit sales worldwide, and now we are excited to bring it
to millions of new fans through web browsers and mobile
platforms.”
TEKKEN CARD TOURNAMENT for mobile, tablet and web browsers will
be available soon with the physical TEKKEN card booster packs
arriving to stores later this summer.
