Disney Infinity 2.0 vs Skylanders Trap Team

Cordova, TN; July 15, in the year of our Lord 2014--Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is looking again at Disney Infinity, and Skylanders. Last year we ran a comparison analysis news article on Skylanders Swap Force versus Disney Infinity. The two were different enough that it was too close to really call. Months later we revisited it, and declared Disney Infinity the winner - mainly due to its lasting power and continuous additions. So what about this year? What do we see for Disney Infinity 2.0 vs Skylanders Trap Team? Can we declare a victor already? Or will we string you along for a bit longer?

First and foremost Family Friendly Gaming has not reviewed Skylanders Trap Team, and we have not reviewed Disney Infinity 2.0. So it would be irresponsible to declare a victor at this time. What we can do is relay our impressions from E3 2014. Are the companies listening to Family Friendly Gaming Nation? Are they providing what you asked for? What kinds of improvements are being made? What kind of innovations did we see? How is the brand looking going forward? What did we think and feel about the games? Are you ready? Are you ready to Ruuuuuuuuuummmmmmbbbbbbblllllleee?

When it comes to listening to Family Friendly Gaming Nation - Disney Interactive Studios is at the top of the list. Your family will not need to buy a new starter kit with Disney Infinity 2.0. The base you purchased with Disney Infinity will work just fine with Disney Infinity 2.0. Skylanders Trap Team requires a new base. Families have told us having to buy a new base with every new game is getting old. Disney Interactive Studios listened, and Activision did not. Looking at the figures announced thus far for Skylanders Trap Team - and it is obvious they are not providing what families asked for. There are plenty of gross characters families will avoid. On the other side of the aisle, Disney Infinity 2.0 opens up the Marvel universe. Please note Marvel universe characters can not play in regular Disney worlds. Marvel universe characters can play in any Marvel playset. So that opens the door a bit, and moves the way families have asked.

On the topic of improvements, Disney Infinity 2.0 looks better, and should play better. Bugs in Disney Infinity were addressed. Being able to trap bosses in Skylanders Trap Team into low priced physical objects is pretty cool. The traps will also talk to you while playing with them. I have to give Skylanders Trap Team the advantage here. The traps are a nice innovation, but so is being able to play with different characters in different playsets. To me there is a tie there. Skylanders Trap Team looks like it will be the same moving forward. Expect humor, a lengthy quest, and being able to play with your previous Skylanders. For Disney Infinity 2.0 expect to see more playsets announced, and plenty of things to play in the future. Right now the edge goes to Skylanders Trap Team, however that could change early 2015.

Right now Disney Infinity 2.0 vs Skylanders Trap Team is at a tie. Three votes for each franchise on the criteria we have covered thus far. The final question will determine which game has the advantage going into launch. The interest and excitement here at Family Friendly Gaming comes down on the side of Disney Infinity. When we look at the future of the franchise, we have more hope for Disney Infinity. I ask questions like: “which franchise will I buy something for?” Ultimately the new playsets, and the new Marvel universe interest me more. We have plenty of characters that will work in the Skylanders games. We have no interest in buying any new ones. We can make it through Skylanders Trap Team with the included characters and the basket load we currently have. No need to invest in any new ones. Disney Infinity 2.0 brings all kinds of new worlds for us to play in. Which encourages us to make additional purchases.

So there you have it. Right now we are sticking with the champ. We see more promise going forward for Disney Infinity 2.0. We expect Skylanders Trap Team will reach levels of success. The difference between these two is very close.

God bless,
Paul Bury
