Kids Play Games Too
Cordova, TN; August 2, in the year of our Lord 2014--Family
Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family
friendly video games is educating the rest of the gaming media
to the reality that kids play games too. Peruse a variety of
gaming websites, and magazines. The offensive material is thick
with the macabre and morbid. In fact that is what most of the
gaming media focuses on. If you did not know better, you might
make the mistake of thinking there are no video games for
children. Although kids games are in sad shape in 2014, there
are still some out there. There definitely needs to be more of
them, that is for sure.
Lego Ninjago Nindroids got me thinking. Where are the games
targeting children? Where are the Angel Wars video games? Where
are the new VeggieTales video games? Where are the new Sesame
Street games? Where are the new Dora the Explorer video games?
Where are the new Go Diego Go video games? In the past we have
been treated to all kinds of games that came from kids, and
teenager television shows. Games like iCarly Groovy Foodie,
Garfield, Jonas, Sunny with a Chance, Tom and Jerry Tales, and
more. We were also treated to games based off of Build A Bear,
Bratz, Hello Kitty, Zhu Zhu Pets, Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie,
and more.
Why is 2014 such a flop for kids games? Family Friendly Gaming
has covered thousands of games for kids. Many of them received
sequel after sequel. They must have sold to have been given so
many games. Leapster representatives will tell you that kids
games sell. So its not that. WB Games has been providing for
kids this year. Majesco Entertainment gave us Gardening Mama 2.
Nintendo published Disney Magical World. BiP Media published the
Farm games on the Wii U. Neko Entertainment has made some games
here and there for kids. Beiz released on educational game on
the 3DS. That is it for this year. An abysmal first half of 2014
for kids.
Just to clarify - I am talking about ‘E’ for Everyone games. I
am talking about games that specifically target kids. Yes some
E10+ for Everyone TEN and OLDER ONLY are generally grouped in
with kids games. But those games exclude anyone nine years and
younger. Who are also children. I am also dismayed that video
games that teach good lessons are few and far between this year.
Remember all video games are teaching us something, so the label
‘educational games’ is misleading and inaccurate. I hope the
industry picks it up in what is left of 2014. They definitely
need to improve drastically in 2015. As of right now the video
game industry is failing children. Turn it around. You can do
better.
God bless,
Paul Bury
