Sports Games End of the Season
Cordova, TN; December 12, in the year of our Lord 2014--Family
Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family
friendly video games is addressing a major problem with the
modern day sports video games. We are not going to address
monopolies or lack of competition in this article. Those are
major problems that do need to be addressed. Just not in this
particular article. Food for thought for a future article if you
feel me. This is about the timing for sports video games as well
as what they include. Sports video games are released at the
start of a new season. However they include past season content.
What is the problem? Look at Madden NFL 15 for example. The
Seattle Seahawks were set up as the dominate team. Since they
ended the 2014 as the most dominate team. There are however off
season adjustments. Madden NFL 15 has receiver Sidney Rice on
the team. He retired in pre-season. So it makes no sense to have
him as a player going into the next season. Now thanks to
technology EA Sports can update the roster and teams. However
those roster changes are happening all the time, and Madden NFL
15 can not keep up. Plus they are guessing at how powerful a
team is. Going back to the Seahawks, EA Sports had them at a 91
rating. Then dropped them to an 87. They are doing good again so
it makes sense to move them up again. All of this gets confusing
as a season goes on.
Here is what I would like to see from sports video games. At the
end of the season, release your game. You have all the data on
what happened the previous year. Let fans relive that last
season. Do not try to sell it as the upcoming season, because
none of us knows what is going to happen in the next season.
There are numerous off season trades and free agency moves, as
well as the draft. All of that can be factored in at the
beginning of the development for next years game. How many draft
picks are rated highly but flop in the pros? How many sports
games predict one thing, and wind up wrong?
Again release right after the championship game. Whether that is
the Super Bowl, Finals, Stanley Cup, or World Series. Then all
of the data in the game is accurate. If you want to rewrite
history for your team for the past season, then go for it. If
you want to go through history as it happened, then you should
be provided that option as well. Reliving the last season makes
more sense to me. It is accurate and gets us away from the
faulty predictions. Plus the game would know who was injured and
for how many weeks.
God bless,
Paul Bury
