True Light Games Releases Through The Shadows
Atlanta, October 6, in the year of our Lord 2014
-- True Light Games is pleased to release "Through The Shadows -
Episode One, Chapter One" for Windows PC. Through The Shadows is
a First Person, 3D Episodic Adventure Game for Windows PC. The
first episode, titled "The Darkness Revealed" is an ongoing game
that unfolds in individual game releases, called Chapters.
The first Chapter is now available for instant download for
$9.99. It provides 10+ hours of game play, full of
investigation, reading, solving clues and puzzles, opening new
environments, and unfolding the larger story.
You play the role of Jesse, a young man who finds himself at the
start of a mysterious journey. He is led by information passed
down to him by a lineage of people who call themselves The
Seekers of the Truth. As the story progresses, The Seekers open
his eyes to a dangerous world of a deceptive enemy that wishes
to erase the legacy that The Seekers strive to protect.
This video game would fit the category of a story-based
adventure game based upon historical fiction and an imaginative
approach to share the developer's Christian world view, while
aiming to entertain and challenge the most devout 'serious'
gamer, whether the interest in game play is purely secular or
Christian. Where the game does focus on introducing biblical
principles throughout the development of the story and game
play, it is not obtrusive to the goal of providing a game that
lives up to the highest artistic and entertaining standard.
According to the developer, Michael Angel, of True Light Games,
"Through The Shadows is the result of nearly 7 years of research
and over 3.5 years of development to bring Chapter One to
market. It is the result of my heart, my love for story-telling,
composing music, and a love for The Lord.
Through The Shadows was born out a niche that I felt was missing
in the large format, AAA 'serious' game community. The challenge
to make a 'Christian' video game that is not limited by a
preachy, edutainment perspective, or even worse, a compromise on
standards or principle, was frowned upon by a large segment of
the development community. For the serious gamer who also
happened to be a Christian, the choices were to avoid game play
or to abandon their morals for the sake of the form of
entertainment that they wished to partake in. Developers largely
saw the solution to either compromise on principle or to create
games that dance around the issue of belief. I became
overwhelmingly aware of this difficulty once I decided to
respond to the issue and create the game I would want to play. I
believe that Through The Shadows is a proof that this challenge
can be accomplished.
The player focuses on learning information that will propel them
forward, through 34 levels of constantly changing 3D worlds.
They are introduced to biblical text, principles, and concepts
that are not compromised for the sake of the story, but are not
forced upon the secular player in a way that pushes them into a
corner. You play through the view of the character that you
play, and will experience the fictional story from a perspective
that reflects my values, but at the end of the journey, you may
still disagree with some of the points made, but you will
hopefully still anxiously await Chapter Two's release! This is
an adventure in and of itself, but it is also a call to other
developers to raise the bar on content and seek to attack the
toughest issues that we are going to face in society, and I am
here to help be a part of the solution with the help of Jesus
Christ, my Lord and Savior."
