Cynicism in Gaming
Cordova, TN; April 3, in the year of our Lord 2015--Family
Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family
friendly video games is taking an honest look at cynicism in
gaming. Where does it come from? Who is to blame? What can be
done to combat it? What can you do about it? What will you do
about it? What will the video game companies do about it? What
will the ESRB do about it? What will the government do about it?
How will families address this issue in their own homes? How do
you know when you are being cynical? How can you change? Is
cynicism in itself bad? When will all the questions stop?
For over ten years I have received press releases from a variety
of companies. It is somewhere in the thousands. I have also
talked to hundreds of PR and company representatives at a
variety of different events. They all do their best to put their
best foot forward. At times they are spreading propaganda. Other
times they are deceiving and manipulating. Still other times
they are out and out lying. After catching so many companies in
this dishonorable, and unethical behavior it is really easy to
not believe anything any of the company representatives say. Add
in their desires to have everyone worship at the idolatry of
political correctness, and it is a recipe for cynicism.
Family Friendly Gaming is unique among the gaming media outlets.
We are unique as a gaming website for families. We are unique as
a video game magazine. There is so much different about us. We
try to find as many positives as we can. I prayed at length
before writing this article. I have been around the worldly
gaming media to know most of them are highly cynical. In fact I
have heard all kinds of sarcastic remarks in media rooms about
press releases, speeches, and presentations. As well as a
disbelief over what they see and what the final product will be.
They are drowning in the lies, misinformation, deceit,
manipulation, and propaganda from these companies. The best way
to combat that is spending time with God. Spending time in
prayer. Spending time listening to praise and worship songs.
Reading the Holy Bible, and correcting our perspectives. Getting
our vertical relationship right, so we can correct the
horizontal ones.
Responsibility and accountability are big things. I wish the
worldly gaming media would have more solidarity when it came to
spreading the misinformation, propaganda, lies, and deceit.
Companies send us press releases. We do not need to publish what
they send exactly as they send it to us. We can also decide to
refrain from running coverage from companies and products that
refuse to be responsible, and accountable. I am talking about
honor, ethics, and integrity. Family Friendly Gaming removes all
kinds of misinformation, propaganda, lies, and deceit. We are
not perfect, but at least we are trying to do something about
it. We are trying to filter out the bad before we pay to publish
it. A loss of coverage will result in a loss of revenue, which
is the only thing these companies will pay attention to.
Consumers can tell the gaming companies, and every single gaming
website that they hold them responsible and accountable. Tell
them you want just the facts. Only the facts. Nothing but the
facts. Give everyone your perspective. I hear from a wide array
of different perspectives all the time. I try to be as mindful
and sensitive as I can. Forgiveness also helps since some of us
(like me) are the bull in a china shop kind of a personality. I
love Jesus Christ, and I love doing His work. I am still
growing, developing and improving. Which is why I am working on
smiling, and leaving the cynicism behind me. It is my hope and
prayer that video game companies, and the world gaming media
websites improve. That their hearts warm to truth, honesty,
integrity, and honor.
God bless,
Paul Bury
