How Many Toy to Video Game Products Will the Market Support?

Cordova, TN; May 25, in the year of our Lord 2015--Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is asking a question that we do not have the answer to. At least not yet. How many toy to video game products will the market support? It is a fair question. Is the latest video game trend the toy to video game model? We had Skylanders, then Disney Infinity, then Amiibo, and soon to be release Lego Dimensions. Will the market support all of those? Can the market support any more? Who else is out there trying to come up with a toy to video game model? When something sells in the video game industry plenty of other companies flock to the same idea. The video game industry has a long history of companies claiming to be innovative and leading while they copy some other companies idea.

Skylanders became a monster success. So much so that Disney Interactive Studios decided to take them on head to head. Disney Infinity has also been a great success. Many of us at Family Friendly Gaming wondered if the video game industry could handle two massive toy to video game franchises. The market handled it just fine. By the time Nintendo came along with the amiibos, we did not think it would go anywhere. Some places are reporting amiibos are saving the failing Nintendo. There are actually shortages of certain amiibo characters. Well we were wrong, Nintendo copied a good idea, and it worked. One of the reasons we were skeptical is amiibos do not have their own official game like Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Amiibos can be used in multiple games, but on a very limited basis.

This brings me to Lego Dimensions. With Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and amiibos going strong I believe Lego Dimensions will also be a hit. The cost of each package is going to be very important for the success or failure of Lego Dimensions. How many hours will the levels be? What other interaction will there be in Lego Dimensions? Will the price be lower than Disney Infinity and Skylanders? How many cool franchises will be released for Lego Dimensions? With WB Games behind Lego Dimensions it has a chance to take on both Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Who will win a three way battle between them? God only knows. There is a potential for all kinds of cool franchises to make appearances in Lego Dimensions. I predict the market will be able to handle the addition of Lego Dimensions into the toy to video game genre.

God bless,
