Is Nintendo Irrelevant?
Cordova, TN; January 23, in the year of our Lord 2015--Family
Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family
friendly video games is analyzing a very important question to
the video game industry and to families. Is Nintendo Irrelevant?
It has been some time since Nintendo has released anything
innovative. The overwhelming majority of their video game
releases are rehash. Families embraced the Wii and the motion
based controls. The 3D in the Nintendo 3DS was actually stolen
technology that Nintendo had to pay for1.
Nintendo has also lost law suits in patent infringements on the
Wii and Wii U2. How many
families are aware of this? How many hardcore gamers are aware?
Then there are the scandals like their major blunder with Let's
Play.
Nintendo has been slow to jump on new technologies. They did
finally enter the HD visual arena way after their competition
(Sony and Microsoft). The Nintendo home consoles are less
powerful than their competition. The Wii U Gamepad is a blatant
copy of the tablet devices. To make matters worse the Wii U
Gamepad does not do the tablet device as well as iOS or Android.
Sales of the Wii U show Nintendo is in last place of the Big
Three (Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo). The only device Nintendo
has selling well is the Nintendo 3DS. Yet that hand held is
doing worse than its predecessor the Nintendo DS. Nintendo
continues to contract along with the video game industry. Which
makes me ask are they now irrelevant?
I went from Atari to Nintendo. I have supported Nintendo for
decades. Their lack of imagination, insight, and failure to
listen is helping Nintendo fail. I remember when Nintendo was
cutting edge. I remember when Nintendo was constantly coming up
with cool, new technology. I remember when Nintendo gave their
supporters a savings at retail (Player's Choice anyone?).
Nintendo has the most stale games at the highest prices.
Nintendo can’t keep sports game developers happy on their home
consoles. All of the problems are piling up for Nintendo.
Getting to the point where this camel’s back is about ready to
break.
It has been so long since Nintendo has done anything innovative.
Families tell me all the time they are sick of the
discrimination against Christians in the video game industry.
Nintendo has never done anything to improve that. Instead they
continue their hate filled archaic company policies. Nintendo
could become more transparent. Instead they try to control what
is said about them. Want good press Nintendo? Then do good
things. Do things worthy of good press. Start to be honest and
sincere. Think of your customers first, and sales will come.
Stop being so greedy and selfish.
{UPDATE} Nintendo continues to backslide in the wrong direction
with the closing of Club Nintendo.
God bless,
