Job Hopping in PR
Cordova, TN; April 4, in the year of our Lord 2016--Family
Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family
friendly video games is peeling back the curtain with some
thoughts on the job hopping that happens in the PR industry. If
you are not versed on this, we see this first hand all the time.
People move around from company to company in the PR video game
industry. It even happens to the companies that release movies
and DVDs. Stability and longevity is rare to find. In fact
working with the same person at the same company for five years
is very rare. Why does this happen? Anyone out in Family
Friendly Gaming Universe have any ideas? If you do please fire
me an email. For now I will share some of my thoughts and
insights.
PR is one of the worst industries when it comes to metrics. How
can you prove the work you do in PR actually turns to real
sales? Some products sell themselves and PR needs to stay out of
the way to ensure good sales. Other products are so horrible no
matter who you are – sales are not coming. There are of course
products somewhere in between those two extremes. The first
problem is it is hard to tell who is actually having results,
and who is a worthless liar. Then there are certain people in
gaming media with an axe to grind. Maybe they discriminate
against Christians and are going to hate any Christian made
product. They won’t help PR make money for their clients if they
are closed minded bigots. People have feelings and sometimes
those feelings get hurt. It goes both ways, some people in PR
discriminate against certain media outlets.
Another problem I have noticed is the lack of integrity and
ethics from too many people in PR. It seems the thieves, liars,
and cheats get promoted whereas the good, honest, moral, and
ethical get dumped on. At times I have wondered if the entire PR
industry is evil because I have run into so many evil, vile,
selfish, and wicked people. Every so often I come across a good
one. To me the entire PR industry is 100% backwards. The bad
people are prospering and the good people are being cheated.
Attached to this is poor targeting. I wish I could write tickets
for every single time someone in PR improperly targets. There is
no accountability for their mistakes. I have scientifically
tested a variety of responses to get my point across. None of
them work. Why? They are not held accountable for their
mistakes.
The final observation I have made is the grass is greener on the
other side syndrome. Too many people in PR spend so much time
working with lies they are not capable of noticing truth when it
is right in front of them. They eat the lies they themselves
feed others all the time. They must think we are all stupid. Or
we have no memory of exposing them as liars before. So they go
to where the grass is greener. Why? To start over, and because
they ate up the lies they were told that the grass was greener
on the other side. I lost track of how many people in PR told me
they thought their new job would be better, and they were wrong.
Maybe someday they will mature and learn from that mistake.
God bless,
Paul Bury
