Companies Taking Away Games

Cordova, TN; July 31, in the year of our Lord 2017--Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is chronicling another problem with digital downloadable video games. What is this problem? Something we noticed recently when we tried to go back and play certain games. What is it that we noticed? They no longer work. These video game companies can make a digital download code with little effort. We were going to do a video series on SimCity on the Personal Computer. Electronic Arts would not let us play the game anymore. That is pretty lame. XField Paintball 3 is a game that expired the day after it was officially released. Not that we wanted to play it anymore. Kinect Sports Rivals also expired pretty quickly after the review came out. Thank you Microsoft.

Companies cannot expire a physical copy version of a video game. In fact we go back and play older games on older systems all of the time. We are finding that is becoming more and more of a problem with digital downloads. Just another reason to dislike digital downloadable codes compared to physical copy versions of video games. I must admit I was pretty shocked about it. As someone who has a partial heritage of Cherokee in his blood, I immediately thought of the “Indian Giver” insult from the past. I am not going to use it. I am just letting you know the thought crossed my mind. Did that same thought cross your mind when you first heard about this? I do not have the time to check on every single digital downloadable game to find out how deep this problem goes.

Another reason this bothers me is the FCC requires we disclose when a video game company provides us a copy of a game. It makes the video game companies look really generous. There is now a serious problem with that. How many of these video game companies that gave us digital downloads took them away at some future date? In essence they did not give us a free copy of the game. They gave us an extended rental. This is a whole lot less than the full copy of the game. At this point I do not want a digital download whenever there is a physical copy version available. I knew many of these video game companies were slimy, and shady. I did not realize how bad until I came across this truth. This is a truth that I needed to share with you. How many other gaming media outlets are checking on this? How many others are reporting on it?

God bless,
