Pretend like they are a media outlet

Cordova, TN; April 23, in the year of our Lord 2018--Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is standing up for truth, and justice. There has been a trend lately where certain video game companies confuse their advertisements with real news stories. It can be a bit of a fine line that some may contest. A company announcing a new video game could be considered news. That same company that tells you how amazing it is, and to buy it now has entered the realm of propaganda and advertising. There have been Nintendo Directs that move back and forth between actual information for the consumer and advertisement. Sort of like the infomercials on the television. Their goal is to make a sale from you. They give some information and plenty of propaganda.

I chuckle when these companies do this. We already know they are self-centered control freaks. That has been covered by Family Friendly Gaming before. In some regards this is an outshoot of that flaw. Companies like Nintendo for example want to control the narrative. They only want their words to be spoken about the video games they sell to us. Since there is a little diversity in the video game media from the Nintendo company line they take complete control of the conversation. Notice how many gaming media outlets tell you what Nintendo said at a Nintendo Direct? They fell for the trap. The Nintendo Directs are not the only way this is happening. There is something else that is more insidious in my opinion. What is it? Check out the next paragraph.

Sony and Microsoft decided they would not send out all the press releases like they used to. Instead they attempted to get every single gaming journalists to read their blogs. Why is this bad? Having the information in one centralized location is good right? Not when it comes to quoting. See we edit the propaganda out of the press releases at Family Friendly Gaming. We cannot do that to a blog. We can selectively quote it – that is okay. We have to give the source which involves giving the link to their blog. This is the whole point. Sony and Microsoft want all of our readers to go to them for information. That way they can layer in all the propaganda they want. In a way they are asking the gaming media to put themselves out of business. Sadly too many gaming media outlets have happily given these companies their way.

What can be done about it? Gaming media outlets need to reject these blogs and videos. Instead they need to demand information be presented in a way that ensures their continued survival. When these gaming companies reach no one with their propaganda they will realize releasing press releases again is the right way to do business. Who is willing to stand up and make the video game industry a better place? Who else is willing to drain the swamp of corruption in the video game industry.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
Paul Bury
