More than just Fun

Cordova, TN; August 19, in the year of our Lord 2019 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is answering an important question in relation to how we review video games. We have been asked a couple of related questions. Here they are. Shouldn’t you just review games based on whether they are fun or not? Why don’t you pay attention to how fun a game is? This line of question has actually been addressed already in the Video Game Lies book. A few of the main points will be addressed in this article. Who decides what is fun? How do we define fun? Does everyone share the same definition of fun?

It would be really fun to go flying outside of an airplane. It would be so much fun falling down toward Earth from ten thousand feet without a parachute. Problem is it ends when we come crashing down to Earth. It would be so fun to eat all kinds of candy and sugar. Problem is that behavior leads to cavities, needles in the mouth, and drilling on your teeth. Just because something is fun for the moment does not mean it is actually good for us. Do you care about the holistic viewpoint? Do you look down the line and ask what comes after your momentary fun?

Those that are only used to the drive by fake news gaming news media are used to shallow definitions, and observations about video games. I understand they are not used to thinking for themselves. I understand they are not used to having their belief system being questioned. Instead they lash out like a toddler having a temper tantrum. Are their video game choices part of their reason they have such a lack of maturity? We challenge all gamers, and all families to think for themselves. We challenge all gamers, and all families to take a deep long look at their entertainment choices. Do they make you better, no change, or worse? Some people don’t want to think, and get angry that we encourage them to it.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
