What Happens to the MCU after Avengers Endgame

A number of questions linger for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now that Avengers Endgame has become one of the biggest movies of all time, the Avengers left to protect Earth seem stuck. How do you continue without Captain America and Iron Man? Well, the MCU is far from over, and there are some likely ways that the story continues. Let’s talk about what might be coming now that Avengers Endgame is over for the MCU and its heroes.

What Happens After Avengers Endgame
There are some certainties, and a few questions, after Avengers Endgame. Let’s start with what we know.

What We Know about the MCU After Avengers Endgame
There are a few things that Endgame confirmed, as well as a few things we’ve known about since the other Marvel movies debuted. Here’s what we know about the MCU now that Endgame is complete.

Endgame Confirmed the Multiverse
Endgame was all about quantum travel. Thanks to Ant Man, it became clear that the quantum realm would allow the Avengers to go back in time to obtain the Infinity Stones. When they did that, it worked, and Thanos fought them one last time. Best of all, it opened up the knowledge of other universes. For example, Captain America goes into another universe and lives out his life with Agent Carter. It’s heartwarming to know he got that end, but it’s also crazy. We now have proof of the multiverse, and that means some more changes could be coming.

Some Avengers Aren’t Returning
While the quantum travel plan was able to bring back everyone who got “snapped” by Thanos, some are not returning. There are a number of heroes who will not be coming back. The biggest being Iron Man, who we saw snap back at Thanos to save everyone. The power of the Infinity Stones was so strong that there was no chance Tony Stark could survive, and he unfortunately lost his life. It was a scene we won’t soon forget.

On a lighter note, it was mentioned above that Captain America left to another Universe to live with Agent Carter and grow old. It was a heartfelt way to give Cap the life he always wanted with the woman he loved. We see him at the end of Endgame as an old man and truly happy, passing on the shield to Falcon. Lastly, Black Widow is going to also not return, after being sacrificed for the Soul stone. That, unfortunately, cannot be reversed, and it was a hard scene to watch. Despite trying to take one for the team, Hawkeye watched his best friend die, but was reunited in the end with his children and wife. There’s one more thing we know about the MCU now too.

A New Avengers
There will certainly be a new group of Avengers. Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy looked to be heading to space for the time being, so there is a big looming question about who is going to makeup the new Avengers. We have a bit of an idea, thanks to the next big Marvel movie coming next month.

The Next Phase of the MCU
There are plenty of questions still up in the air, but there are a ton of things that are likely to happen as we move forward to Phase Four of the MCU.

Spider-Man Takes Center Stage
Like his mentor Tony Stark, Peter Parker looks to be the new center of the Avengers. As a pupil of Iron Man, Spider-Man is primed to be a great leader for the new Vanguard. The film Spider-Man Far From Home should be coming out soon, so there are plenty of things we will know in the next month when the film comes out. It would make sense to center things around Spider-Man, seeing as the comics do that in a lot of popular storylines.

New Heroes Emerging
A big maybe is looming in regards to two big franchises that may be coming to the MCU. With the acquisition of Fox by Disney, X-Men and the Fantastic Four are likely to be making their debut soon in the Avengers universe. It would be logical for them to exist in other universes, and to somehow make a transfer over to the main world we see playing out in the MCU now. For the time being, we have no confirmations, but a new X-Men movie does come out in June.
