Rejecting Trends

Cordova, TN; September 21, in the year of our Lord 2020 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is continuing to be the voice of diversity in the gaming media, and media at large. I had an interesting conversation with my dad that is the basis of this entire article. My dad cuts out pages from the local Tacoma News Tribune news paper and sends it to us in Tennessee. My dad also recently got a smart phone so he can do video chat conferencing tele-medicine for his wife (my mother). We texted him videos before along with pictures since it is so easy to take a picture of video with a smart phone and text it to someone you know. We tried to explain to my dad how to send and receive texts. He took the phone back to the store he bought it from to be shown how to receive a text. We still have not got him sending a text. Got all of these facts down?

I was talking to my dad on the phone recently and he mentioned there was some picture in the paper he wanted to send to us. I suggested he take a picture and text or even email the picture to us. He also wanted to keep the paper for himself. He decided to take the paper to the library, pay for a photo copy and then mail that to us. I tried to convince him to text us the picture from his phone. He had no interest in doing that. Partially he does not know how, does not want to learn, and has no interest in using all of the technology in his phone. I let it go because I am not going to force him to use technology that he is not comfortable with. Sure there are so many marvels and easy ways he could do things with technology. He drew his line in the sand years ago and does not cross it.

Many of us have lines in the sand and we reject new trends. I never got into MySpace and I never missed it. I honestly expected the same from Facebook and Twitter. Albeit those platforms have major problems, but I use them. I am not a fan of digital downloads because they steal consumer rights. I do watch digital downloads, and play digital downloadable video games. I am not a fan of them personally. I get not wanting to embrace new technology. I loved my flip phone and kept it for years while others were on smart phones. There is nothing wrong with deciding you do not want to participate in some new trend. I absolutely refuse to join the trend of rebelling against God. Plenty of people who want to be with the “in” crowd are doing that. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

Some people may face palm or shake their heads when it comes to those who want to mail a picture instead of use their phone to send that same picture as a text or email. Do you really want to force our elders to do things your way? Did you ever consider they have a reason for their choices? My parents like to spend time with people in person at stores instead of online shop. They like to support their local communities. My dad is supporting the local paper, the Post Office, and more. Sending the text supports the phone company. Who are we to say our choice is better? That is why it is a choice.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
