The Serpent and The Seed Announced
April 12, in the year of our Lord 2023 --
Thorns & thistles have overtaken a world ruled by a Serpent. But
an old, mostly forgotten book holds a promise: the Seed of Eve,
the only hope for salvation. Are you brave enough to discover
the adventure within its pages?
UK charity Discipleship Tech, creators of the award-winning
PrayerMate app, have launched a crowdfunding campaign for The
Serpent & The Seed, a mobile adventure game currently in
development for iOS and Android. Inspired by classic mobile
games like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP and Monument
Valley, The Serpent & The Seed will take players on a poetic
journey exploring why our world is the way it is - full of so
much beauty intertwined with so much brokenness - and where the
source of true hope can be found.
The charity recently shared a demo version of Act 1 of the game
at the Word Alive conference in Prestatyn, North Wales, allowing
the player to explore the Garden of Eden and witness the
infamous events at the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
It received a very positive response from attendees at the
conference, with one saying “I never knew I could get so
emotionally invested in a game”, another simply saying “It’s
brilliant!”
Now Discipleship Tech are seeking £32,000, or as they describe
it, “one pound for every verse in the Bible”. The money will be
used to fund development of the remaining three acts of the
game, that will give a whirlwind tour of the rest of the Old
Testament and on to Jesus and beyond. Over £11k of “matched
giving” is available, meaning that for every £1 donated the
charity will raise £2 towards development of the project.
Project Lead Andy Geers writes: “The Bible tells us such a
profound story about who we are, how we got here and where we’re
headed, which gives meaning to everything in between. We really
wanted to set out to build something that was engaging for
people who aren’t familiar with that story - not something dry
and boring and which feels more like a Sunday school lesson than
a game. The Serpent & The Seed really leans in to the imagery
and poetry of the Bible and allows players to discover the hope
that it has to offer.”
The game will feature music and songs by Poor Bishop Hooper, a
husband & wife duo from Kansas, USA, who are best known for
their ambitious “EveryPsalm” project, releasing a new song every
week working through all 150 Psalms. It also features artwork by
illustrator Greg Clifton.
