Truths to Share - Hooks in There

Cordova, TN; March 13, in the year of our Lord 2023 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is continuing to be the voice of diversity in the gaming media, and media at large. There are so many truths I love to share. This is now a series. We have been asking for less and less review codes from these companies. I have some that just about beg me to take a review code from them. Many of the people in PR and Marketing send multiple requests to us to ask them for a code. I always found that to be a bit backwards. There are a couple of reasons we are asking for less and less codes. The first one is the hooks that are in there. When someone in PR and Marketing sends over a reviewable code they are expecting a review in a certain time frame. Please note they are not paying for that. There are threats if we do not meet their time table as we work as slave labor.

We have a healthy pile of video games to review. In fact it goes beyond video games. There are comics, manga, movies, television shows and more awaiting our attention. The people that give us a code (that has no real world monetary value) think they should cut to the front of the line and get covered immediately. It is a different story when a physical copy of a product is sent to us. I remember one week years ago that twenty-five physical copy products arrived in one week. That was a fun and busy week. Codes do not have the same appeal. Here is a code, lets go and download this, wait hours, and finally play some slop that is not good enough for a physical copy. Sure there are bad physical copy games but not as lazy as digital downloads have gotten.

Thanks to all ya'll for the financial support. From the gift cards, to merch, to books, donations, and more you guys are helping us be able to purchase the products we hope to cover at some point. We can take our time and not being constantly pressured to get something online. Why is there such a rush to get it online? PR and Marketing people present a report to their clients to justify their jobs. No payments ever come to us for that hard work that keeps them employed. We buy what we want to play. We look at the available games and decide what to live stream, video record, and make reviews of. Too many digital downloads have burned us with garbage we do not want to deal with. We have been doing this since 1998. We pick and choose what we want to cover.

Most of the time I ignore (and quickly delete) emails offering me a code for something. If we want to play it we will purchase a physical copy. If you do not make a physical copy then it is your loss. If we can get a free copy on Xbox Gamepass or Playstation Plus we may download it and possibly get to it at some point. For us digital downloads are a much lower priority. Then after the product is shown in the FFG Haul live stream we put it in its appropriate pile and it has the same chance as everything else to get covered at some point. We are in control, and not beholden to others. We make the choices on coverage. We definitely listen to our audience. Rarely do they ask for something we don't already own or plan to purchase.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
Paul Bury
