Across the Wonderlands Announced
Family Friendly Gaming News
Warsaw, Poland – November 19, in the year of our Lord
2024 – Fans of open-world survival crafting games
looking for an innovative twist on traditional crafting will
find Across the Wonderlands a refreshing alternative with its
unique “Slot-Crafting System.”
What is Slot-Crafting?
The slot-crafting system in Across the Wonderlands lets players
modify equipment and dishes by slotting any ingredients or
materials they discover—no blueprints, workbenches, or NPC
assistance required. Players can craft on the fly, even during
combat, by dragging and dropping items onto a target base item.
Alternatively, they can right-click a base item and select
“Craft” or use the Inventory’s detail panel, though
drag-and-drop is by far the most intuitive. This fluid system
enables quick adjustments, transforming something as simple as a
healthy veggie sandwich into a devastating weapon against your
enemies.
Why Does It Work?
Set in a magical world inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the
game’s whimsical nature encourages players to experiment with
bizarre combinations, such as crafting a "Mighty Belly Button
Slug Meat Tartare of Max Health filled with Fear." Whether
you’re eating these eccentric dishes or lobbing them at foes,
Across the Wonderlands embraces chaos through quirky yet logical
mechanics. And if you overindulge, there is no need to fret—a
burping mechanic ensures you’ll have room for more concoctions!
Why It Matters?
Every ingredient in Across the Wonderlands features unique
modifiers. Some offer basic buffs like armor or projectile
damage, while others multiply attributes or prolong status
effects. The outcome depends on how the ingredient is used—on a
dish, it might poison you, while on clothing, it could provide
poison resistance. Fortunately, players can preview these
effects in the Inventory before using an item. Mastering these
details is crucial in combat, as enemies react differently to
various effects. For instance, slugs shrink when electrocuted
but float in zero gravity when stunned.
It seems to be working, as the “Appetized Demo” has received
very positive reviews on Steam despite currently lacking proper
performance optimization, localizations, and accessibility
features—those are planned for future updates. The developers
promise this is just a sneak peek of what’s to come, with plans
to let players create custom base items, modify the hero’s
reactions to status effects, and procedurally change item
appearances based on the slotted ingredients.
