Digital Downloads SUCK

Cordova, TN; March 11, in the year of our Lord 2024 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is continuing to be the voice of diversity in the gaming media, and media at large. I am getting sick and tired of these control freaks in the video game companies acting like it is inevitable that everyone loves, adores, and wants digital downloads. I do not. I am sick and tired of too many video games limiting themselves by not having a physical copy version. At times I will buy a physical copy version of a game from another country. Isn't that crazy? They make a physial copy for Japan and/or Europe but not the US. Why are we ignored in this way?

I thought of a great example recently as to why physical copies being played completely offline is the better choice. I purchased Shining Force for the Genesis many years ago. I can play it whenever I want, however I want, and for as long as I want. I paid for Shining Force on the iOS platform as well. I thought it would be cool to take this game as I went. Can you guess what happened? Apple upgraded iOS and it broke Shining Force. Sega decided to not spend the money on making whatever modifications so the game would keep working on that platform. I am unable to play Shining Force on iOS ever again. I paid for it, and now I am unable to use it. I can always go back to the Genesis version because companies cannot screw us out of our purchases.

That example is not the only one. Ultima Forever is another great example. People put all kinds of money into that game, and EA decided to just remove it. Overwatch stopped working because it was online only and Blizzard Entertainment decided to no longer dedicate servers for it. Offline and physical media is the best way to play games. You won't have your games stolen from you. Or the games won't get changed so badly you no longer enjoy it. Sonic Dash is a great example of that. Sega keeps changing the game and generally breaking it wi
th all those changes. They made the game play experience so much worse.

Ultima Online can be played completely offline if you change the server setting to your computer. More video games need to allow for this. I have been a long time supporter of playing video games completely offline. I see no reason I need to connect to their servers to play my video games. I paid for it, and want to play how I want to play without their hateful interference. They will say it is to stop piracy. I honestly doubt that. I prefer physical copies of games because I know it will never be taken from me. Anyone in the control freak video game companies listening?

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
