Perserverance and Stubbornness

Cordova, TN; March 25, in the year of our Lord 2024 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is continuing to be the voice of diversity in the gaming media, and media at large. I love to explore a plethora of different topics, and ideas in these weekly columns. There are so many things that fascinate me, come across my path, and more. Recently I have been mulling over two things. These two things are perseverance and stubbornness. Have you ever consider the connections between the two? Have you ever wondered how closely related some things actually are?

Definition: perseverance
Steady persistence in adhering to a course of action, a belief, or a purpose; steadfastness.

First and foremost perseverance is considered to be a positive thing. You persevered. You made it through something. You were able to complete a real challenge. A lot of times when challenges come to us others will tell us the growth that we will receive by persevering through something. We will learn about ourselves, and are able to build confidence. The alternate is to give up, and be a quitter. Who wants to be labeled as a quitter?

Definition: stubborn
Refusing to change one's mind or course of action despite pressure to do so; unyielding or resolute.

Generally if you are stubborn it is something that others consider to be a negative thing. In fact people call one another stubborn to be insulting. You refuse to accept some change. You keep doing the same thing. You won't change your course of action. You won't change your beliefs. You are steadfast with what you are doing and how you are doing. You persistently do and/or say the same things. If you are stubborn then you will not change.

Notice how closely related these two are? You have to be stubborn to be persistent. Sure you could be playing a game and keep failing at something by using the same strategy. So you can try a different strategy and persevere. You could also keep doing the same thing in a stubborn way and succeed. It dawned on me that being stubborn is not a bad thing if you are persevering in and with something. I am not clear why so many people think being stubborn is a bad thing. I can be stubborn in my obedience to God, and persevere for His Kingdom.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
