Journey to the Void Playable Demo
Family Friendly Gaming News
Milan, Italy (April 30, in the year of our Lord 2025)
- Indie developer RuneHeads is delighted to place its cards on
the table, as it releases a playable demo on Steam for its
upcoming roguelite deckbuilder, Journey to the Void. The demo
should give players a taste of its card-battling goodness ahead
of the full game’s release later this summer.
Your world is being corrupted and there is darkness and
devastation rampant in each of the disparate elemental regions.
Choose from an endless number of procedurally generated heroes,
select your starting location, and begin your run, going
headfirst and headstrong into battle to decide the fate of your
world. With heroes having positive and negative traits that can
nerf or buff you and locations offering region-exclusive cards,
strategy comes into play right from the very beginning.
Across 25 unique arenas and eight different biomes, you’ll
strategically play with more than 300 cards, items and weapons.
Stack attacks, wield the elements present in that region, and
unleash devastating game-changing abilities to take down more
than 100 different enemy types, including 10 bosses, in
grid-based arenas.
Need to put a bit of pep in your deckbuilding step? Shape your
hero into a powerful warrior by using XP earned in battle to
improve their stats across Constitution, Strength, Resonance and
Intelligence, according to your strategy. In Journey to the
Void, you’ll also encounter fine merchants selling trinkets,
items, and weapons - including those of dazzling rarity - for
your hero to equip.
Offering an additional twist on the genre, Journey to the Void
also features moral decisions which can affect your current and
future runs. In more than 100 possible interactions, you have
the ability to permanently alter a region, with terrible or
tremendous consequences.
In the demo, two biomes, five arenas, 50+ cards and items, 40+
enemies (including two bosses), and 40+ narrative decisions are
available.
Key Features of Journey to the Void
Holding Out for a Hero: With an infinite number of procedurally
generated playable heroes, you’ll choose a new one each run to
make for a unique playthrough. With buffs and nerfs like being
Adamant (more base physical damage) or Unfriendly (trading is
more expensive), the strategic gameplay begins before you even
start your run.
Journey to the Stat Screen: Min/max to your heart’s content with
light RPG elements, levelling up your hero and building their
stats to support your playstyle.
Battling the Elements: More than being background decoration,
the game’s eight different elemental biomes affect the way
certain cards and abilities play. From scorching firelands to
the frozen tundra, you’ll need to build your deck to make the
most of the conditions.
