The Smighties Discovered in Herotopia

CAMBRIDGE, UK – December 12, in the year of our Lord 2011 – The Smighties™ are here! Jagex Games Studio, the UK’s largest independent games publisher, in partnership with New York based developer Herotainment, today announces that unusual, never-before-seen creatures have been discovered in Herotopia, the free-to-play online game for children, and need players help! These small but mighty heroes, the Smighties, represent a major content update for Herotopia, bringing dozens of new, completely unique, fully realized characters into the game, while adding a significant new gameplay mechanic, as players must rescue these strange but friendly creatures from their chilly captivity in the North Pole.

The Smighties are benign beings, each with a distinct look, personality and power. Discovered by the Herotopian uber-villians, the Bully Bunch, the Smighties were frozen by these baddies and cast into the Arctic Sea due to their happy and heroic attributes. Players can now help rescue The Smighties from their frozen fate, by participating in a just-introduced fishing game, selecting one of several fishing rods, ice grabbers and fishing piers. Reeling in a frozen block of ice, players’ catches are sent to a mysterious Melting Machine, and they must return the next day to see what – or which Smighty - emerges.

Depending on their choices in the fishing game, one of 30 unique Smighties may be revealed, ranging from “Rare” to “Super Duper Rare”, and all ready to be collected and cared for! Each of the 30 different Smighties has its own traits, including a specific name, birthday, super power, likes and dislikes. Once collected, Smighties will populate a new venue in the game, The Smighty Playground, where players can provide them the care that they need, keeping them fed, clean, rested and entertained, as the Smighties pay back the kindness with hilarious unique animations all their own. In the next update, players will be able to take a Smighty from their collection with them on their travels throughout Herotopia.

Recipient of the NAPPA Gold Award from the National Parenting Publications Awards, Herotopia offers kids a rich and engaging world for them to become their ultimate Superheroes. Traveling to real-world locations such as New York, the North Pole, Beijing and Paris, kids visit iconic destinations from the Eiffel Tower to Rockefeller Plaza, completing quests, games and adventures along the way. In addition to global travels and the action-packed mini-games, every new Superhero also has their own Secret Hideout, a fully customizable hero base where they can meet with their in-game friends.

Herotopia is accessible to play for free on any internet enabled computer. An All-Access Superhero membership option is available for a small monthly fee, offering special features and privileges on top of the free game. These include the opportunity for players to buy customizations, create their ultimate Secret Hideout, adopt an Orangutan Sidekick, acquire multiple Superpowers and Super Vehicles to travel around this exciting world as well as the ability to unlock and visit to the special fantasy location, Herotopia Island. An All-Access membership costs from range from $5.95 a month to $57.95 for a year.
