Nintendo Announces Wonderful PAX Panel

REDMOND, Wash.--(August 21, in the year of our Lord 2013)-- Nintendo is launching a ton of video games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in the second half of 2013, and many of them are headed to the sold-out PAX Prime event in Seattle. New installments in the Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon and Donkey Kong series and new properties like The Wonderful 101 will be playable at the event prior to their launch in North America later this year. PAX Prime takes place Aug. 30-Sept. 2 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.

Fans anticipating the launch of The Wonderful 101 on Sept. 15 won’t want to miss “Inside The Wonderful 101 with Hideki Kamiya,” a special session at which the Platinum Games creative director will share insight into the vision behind this superhero-themed Wii U exclusive action game. The session will take place at the Pegasus Theater in the Sheraton Seattle Hotel at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1. Additionally, an actor wearing a costume based on Wonder-Red from the game will distribute Wonder-Masks to attendees during the show, while supplies last.

PAX Prime will also be the public’s first opportunity in North America to get hands-on time with the upcoming Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games for Nintendo 3DS. A dedicated Pokémon Gaming Lounge on the second floor of the Washington State Convention Center will offer sampling with a demo version of the game, as well as giveaways (while supplies last).

“People have been hearing about games like Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Super Mario 3D World for a long time, and now thousands of fans will get a chance to play them for themselves. And in the case of The Wonderful 101, they can learn more about the game directly from its creator,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Nintendo has the best fans in the world, and we have a lot of fun activities planned for them at PAX.”

Fans of The Legend of Zelda series can visit a lounge that will focus on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for Wii U and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for Nintendo 3DS. Attendees can also participate in a “Treasure Quest” activity for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Participants will receive a map that will lead them on four quests within the Convention Center. Those who complete all four will receive a T-shirt inspired by the crayfish design that Link wears early in the game (while supplies last).

Pikmin 3, which launched for Wii U to great reviews on Aug. 4, will be at the show, and fans will be able to play the game’s multiplayer Mission Mode. A leaderboard will display high scores for all to see.

Nintendo will have a retail space this year on the fourth floor at PAX, where attendees can purchase a selection of software, hardware and other items. Each day, 101 copies of The Wonderful 101 will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis – two weeks before the game launches on Sept. 15. Fans can also buy limited-edition T-shirts featuring the Year of Luigi, The Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3. Other games like Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pikmin 3, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Shin Megami Tensei IV and Disney Infinity will be available for purchase, in addition to Nintendo 3DS XL and Wii U hardware. Visitors can also pre-order upcoming Nintendo games like Super Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Anyone who spends $25 or more (pre-tax) at the shop will receive a Luigi timeline print, while supplies last. A replica of the King of Red Lions ship that Link rides in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will be available for photos next to the retail location.
