Nintendo Direct 05-17-2013
Cordova, TN; May 17, in the year of our Lord 2013 at 9am
CST –Nintendo started a new Nintendo Direct. They
addressed upcoming game releases and E3 2013. Satoru Iwata
starts us off. He wants to talk about games launching this
year. Separate Nintendo Direct around the time of E3 was also
referenced. He wants to helps you understand Nintendo's future,
and what is on the horizon.
First up he wants to talk about Sega. A new Mario and Sonic
Olympic games was referenced. He talked about the weather in the
city of Sochi . Geography of the area was shown, as well as
Panorama View of the area. It is facing the Black Sea in Russia.
The game will have Wii U enhanced graphics, and it will use the
Wii Remote plus controller. Figure skating, and snowboarding
slope style were shown. Some sports in this game will use the
Wii U Gamepad like Curling. Free events, and mixed events were
shown. Launch timing is to be announced.
More Sonic info was brought up. Sega and Nintendo entered a
partnership for a new Sonic the Hedgehog game on Wii U and 3DS.
The franchise continues as a planet was shown. This was mainly a
teaser, so expect more information to come soon.
Additional Sega Game Gear games will be releasing on the
Nintendo eShop soon. The Game Gear was shown, as well as
multiple games that will be arriving on the Nintendo 3DS soon.
We then go to the Nintendo Treehouse and meet JC Rodrigo. He
starts out by talking about Legend of Zelda Oracle of the
Seasons, and Legend of Zelda Oracle of the Ages. They are coming
out May 30th for $5.99 each. If you buy them between the launch
date and June 20th they will sell for $4.99 each.
Mario and Donkey Kong Minis on the Move was released recently.
You probably enjoyed reading the Family Friendly Gaming review
on this hand held downloadable game. Nintendo hopes that player
created puzzles will keep you addicted for a long time to come.
Creation tools were shown, as well as how to search for user
created levels. You are able to rate the levels from other
players.
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is coming out on May 24th. There
are eight new levels you can access. The different modes were
shown as well as a variety of the levels in this Nintendo 3DS
game.
Animal Crossing New Leaf is coming out June 9th. So much to this
3DS game. A video series has been created by Nintendo Treehouse.
A Video was shown of how players can play together. Going out to
the island was referenced. A plug for their Youtube channel, and
videos on the Nintendo eShop. StreetPass Miis Plaza, and
Swapnote will have Animal Crossing New Leaf related content.
Game & Wario is coming out June 23. New examples of the styles
of play between Wii U Gamepad and TV screen. Players take turns.
Launch fronks onto a pad - like Sorry Sliders. Ninja twins Kat
and Anna are back with Patchwork - puzzle game. Kung Fu – guide
cricket through the the levels. Watch TV screen(normal view) and
gamepad(top down) for different visuals. Iwata asks was then
plugged.
We go back to Iwata for a non-family game referenced.
New Super Luigi U is coming out on June 20th. This is DLC for
New Super Mario Bros U., for year of Luigi. Mario does not
appear in the game. Play as Nabbit, Luigi, Yellow Toad or Blue
Toad. Nabbit can not power up, but won't take damage - so he
makes the game easier. What if you do not have it New Super
Mario U? Nintendo is releasing a stand alone version of New
Super Luigi U on August 25th for $29.99. The DLC version costs
19.99 DLC.
The Wonderful 101 is coming out on September 15th. More data

Pikmin 3 is coming August 4th. Alph, Brittany, Charlie, are new
characters. They are in search of food. They crash land and find
Pikmin. They then start exploring. Pikmin help them carry food
back to the starship. The fruit is used to make a juice for them
to eat as food. Night on the planet is dangerous. So only
explore from dawn to dusk. Different Pikmin have different
skills. Players can replay at any point to be more efficient. No
planet time frame limitation so you can take as long as you
want. Wii U gamepad called Kopad - is very handy and helpful.
Finger swipes perform screen scrolling. Also watch a replay of
the game day. Multiple game control options will be available.
More on challenge mode, and multiple player is coming.
Reggie Fils-Aime ends this Nintendo Direct. He references E3
2013, and mentions in the past it was all about what new
hardware Nintendo was releasing, and how it felt. This year he
wants E3 2013 to be all about the games. In the past Nintendo
focused on those attending the event – us in the media who have
supported them. This year its for the people. Nintendo has
partnered with Best Buy. Families can go to Best Buy and
experience the games for themselves.
