Skylanders Swap Force Figures Store Experience in Top Half
March 1, in the year of our Lord
2013 — Activision recently announced the new Skylanders
game,
Skylanders Swap Force. The headline here is that it offers
new figures than can be separated at the middle and mixed and
matched. Basically you can create 256 different combinations
from the 16 different Swap Force figures.
It was interesting to hear from Family Friendly Gaming editor
that many of the questions he gets about the game revolve around
the inclusion of the Undead element. This, it seems, is not
something that Christian gamers are comfortable with.
Although
this is not something address in gaming press very often it is
interesting to find that the Swap Force Starter Packs don’t
include Undead Skylanders, instead opting for those with less
worry-some affiliations -- if indeed the pagan gods of Water,
Air or Life are better territory.
This means that you can play through the whole of Skylanders
games without using any Undead characters. Again
Swap Force looks like it will have Fire, Water and Life
Figures in its starter pack.
Another issue not often address for Swap Force is how the new
figures will handle saving – you see, the toy figures are used
to store the players progress. Because you can mix and match
them at will where will the experience and money be saved?
At
the New York launch event I asked about this. Basically you will
be able to upgrade both the top and bottom halves separately,
each will have a distinct upgrade path. It will be the top half
of the Swap Force figures that will save experience and money.
One way to think of it is that the Swap Force characters have
two “brains” but only one “heart”.
In addition to these 16 Swap Force characters are 16 new Series
3 figures, 8 new Light-core and 16 new Core Skylanders. You will
also be able to bring forward all you older toys including the
Giants. Players now have quite a choice – and quite a price to
pay if they want all the figures.
Skylanders Swap Force has not yet been dated or priced.
