Nintendo Direct 04-08-2014 Super Smash Bros

April 8, in the year of our Lord 2014 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is providing coverage of the Nintendo Direct on super Smash Bros. Nintendo put this at a very inconvenient time again.

It starts off with a video of all kinds of characters fighting it out. Masahiro Sakurai introduces himself at the Bandai Namco Studios. They are developing Super Smash Bros on the Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS. He does those freaky hand gestures. He lets us know anything we see can change. So our time may be wasted on this video.

The 3DS version will release in Summer 2014, and the Wii U will release in Winter of 2014. The 3DS will come out first. Prices were not announced.

Now for a Technical Tidbit. The 3DS runs at 60 FPS even in 3D. They made an efficient engine. Some of the Pokemon that are called in will only run at 30 FPS. The same roster will be available on both 3DS and Wii U. The stages between versions will be different though. Some stages will be on both systems, but have variations between then. There are two musical pieces per 3DS stage. The Wii U version has all kinds of different music. There are elements that will link between the 3DS and Wii U version. That info will come at a later date.

Reset Bomb Forest, 3D Land, Spirit Train, Gerudo Valley, Arena Ferox, Tortimer Island, Living Room, Prism Tower, Rainbow Road, Find Mii, Balloon Fight, Jungle Japes stages are shown. These are on the Nintendo 3DS.

Mario Galaxy, Pyrosphere, Town and City, Boxing Ring, Pilot Wings, Skyloft, Windy Hill, Garden of Hope, Wiii Fit Studio, Palutena's Temple, Halberd, and some familiar stages are shown. These are on the Wii U.

Wily's Castle stage is shown. A Megaman stage is shown. The yellow devil is shown. the eye is its only vulnerable spot. The last attack to destroy it will attack the other fighters. Be the last attack in other words. Boss characters are in other stages as well.

Tiki from the Fire Emblem is shown.

Time for online play. The Wii U will allow you to play anyone online across the Internet. The 3DS can play online multiplayer as well. You need a smooth connection to play it well. He recommends the Wii Lan adapter to connect via ethernet.

For Fun, and For Glory modes are online modes to play when not playing with friends. Only wins are recorded in the For Fun mode. For Glory is final destination level only. When you play with friends you can set the rules however you see fit.

Nintendo IDs will be shown, as well as a code of conduct. Nintendo may ban you if you break their rules. He wants everyone to enjoy themselves online. Global Smash Power is a new ranking system. It shows how many people you have outscored. The online modes will match based on skills. He did not share much of that though.

Time to look at some items. Beam Sword, Bumper, Smart Bomb, Motion-Sensor Bomb, POW Block, Beatle, Fire Bar, Back Shield, Bombchu, Fairy Bottle, Ore Club, X Bomb, Hocotate Bomb, Rocket Belt, and Steel Diver are shown.

Fi from Zelda Skyward Sword is shown. Or a trophy of this character. Assist Trophies will help the fighters out. Andorss, Devil, Knuckle Joe, Saki Amamiya, Lyn, Nintendog, Waluigi, Dr Wright, Skull Kid, Mother Brain, Midna, Ashley, Dark Samus, Chain Chomp, Isabelle, Elec Man, and Color TV-Game 15 are shown.

Who knows what will come out of a Pokeball. Rare and legendary Pokemon come out of a Master Ball. Arceus is shown. Additional Pokemon are shown violently trashing characters.

Returning fighters are then shown. Characters that changed forms in the past will not change again. Zero Suit Samus was improved. The same goes for Zelda. She summons a Phantom now. Sheik has come back as a separate character. Kirby has a new Hammer flip move. Kirby also has an ultra sword attack. Evolution is now referenced. Why is that a part of this? Olimar can have only three Pikmin at his disposal. Pit can no longer glide like he used to. He is stronger now though. Other fighters have been tweaked as well. He wants to talk about Yoshi rolling into battle. Yoshi now stands upright. He is even stronger than before.

Pseudo Palutena trophy is now shown.

New fighers are coming up next. Rosalina and Luma are shown. Little Mac is shown next. The Animal Crossing character is shown next. Mega Man is up next. Wii Fit Trainers are shown next. Custom Move Sets are shown.

The 3DS version only has a new game mode called Smash Run. It is a battle game in a dungeon like stage to find power ups. There is a five minute time limit. Their fighters can enhance your fighters. Players do not need to fight one another in this mode - there are plenty of enemies in the way. Different enemies from different franchises will appear.

He asks for our patience as a final video is shown. Gets really glitchy as everyone is dropping off. A final Pokemon is shown. This Nintendo Direct was pretty violent. Family Friendly Gaming gives it a D+ rating.
