Nancy Drew celebrates 85 years
April
20, in the year of our Lord 2015 -- Nancy Drew, iconic
teen detective and role model for millions of girls worldwide,
turns 85 on April 28. To celebrate the milestone, the
longest-‐running Nancy Drew fan-‐based organization, Nancy
Drew Sleuths, will kick off their annual convention in Iowa
City, IA; and Her Interactive will launch the latest installment
of its award winning Nancy Drew mystery video game series, Nancy
Drew: Sea of Darkness.
NANCY DREW SLEUTHS will host their 15th annual convention in
Iowa City, IA, near the hometown of the original ghost writer
for Nancy Drew author Carolyn Keene; Mildred Wirt Benson. The
weekend-‐long event will include a kick off at the University
of Iowa Library with a presentation about Benson who earned
graduate degrees from the university, including the university’s
first masters in journalism. In addition, a collection of
classic Nancy Drew books and the complete Nancy Drew video game
collection from Her Interactive will be donated to the Iowa City
Public Library. Nancy Drew Sleuths will host two more historic
events to honor Nancy Drew: a Toledo, OH, event in May to
commemorate Mildred Wirt Benson's 110th Anniversary, and a
celebration of the 110th Anniversary of the Stratemeyer
Syndicate, creator of Nancy Drew, in Maplewood, NJ in June.
NANCY DREW: SEA OF DARKNESS from Her Interactive is the 32nd
game in the Nancy Drew mystery adventure series. Set in Iceland,
Nancy is caught up in a brand new mystery as the captain of the
celebrated ship “Heerlijkheid” goes missing in the night and its
up to you, as Nancy Drew, to find the truth behind his
disappearance. The game officially launches on May 19th for PC
and Mac computers but pre-‐orders are now available
