DRAGON QUEST VII Fragments of the Forgotten Past 3DS Release Date

September 9, in the year of our Lord 2016 -- The old RPG adventure arrives in Europe for the first time, rebuilt from the ground-up in 3D. When Auster and Prince Kiefer are determined to prove there’s more to life than their island home, they soon stumble into a quest that will see them travelling through time in order to save the fate of their world in DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, coming to Nintendo 3DS family systems on 16th September.

Making its debut across Europe, DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is the latest in the long-running Dragon Quest RPG series. This instalment of the series has been rebuilt from the ground-up in 3D, and represents the latest in a line-up of RPGs on Nintendo 3DS family systems this year, including Bravely Second™: End Layer and Fire Emblem Fates.

In this handheld re-imagining, DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past begins when, in their quest to prove their island isn’t alone in the world, life-long friends Auster, Prince Kiefer and Maribel find themselves embarking on a journey that will see them travel through time and rescue civilisations long-forgotten in order to save the future. By collecting fragments of tablets and putting them back together again, the intrepid heroes can travel to new places and past dungeons in order to restore the world in this truly massive adventure.

To aid in their fight against evil forces, Auster, Prince Kiefer and friends can be customised with over 50 different vocations, allowing them to specialise in a wide variety of classes that allow players to take more control of the battlefield. From Warrior to Mage to Martial Artist, each brings new strategies to the fight, and through the use of special items, heroes can even take on Vocations that allow them to fight as monsters, such as Dragon Quest’s memorable slime enemy.

During their travels, adventurers can not only fight as monsters, but will also be able to discover, befriend, and collect over 200 types of monsters to help grow their personal Monster Meadow. By populating the Meadow with monsters found throughout time, players can eventually send monsters out on scouting missions into special caves that can’t be explored by humans in order to find traveller’s tablets that grant access to special new dungeons. In addition, players can connect to the internet to download exclusive tablets that provide additional dungeons where extremely powerful monsters and rare weapons are waiting to be discovered.

As well as the Monster Meadows, monsters can also be invited to live in the player’s Haven. By inviting people and monsters into their Haven that they’ve met through their travels or via special dungeons, heroes will eventually be able to develop new buildings and settlements in their quest to cultivate the best civilisation and make their village the ideal place to live.

Introduction
Dragon Quest is an iconic Japanese role playing game (RPG) series where the main character is an alter-ego for the player who goes on an a great adventure to defeat a demon lord threatening the world. The Dragon Quest series has consistently maintained a classic RPG setting from the original Dragon Quest released on the NES in 1986 all the way to DRAGON QUEST X in 2012. But at the same time, each title has strived to bring new gameplay mechanics making use of modern technology, such as a 3D map, StreetPass functionality using wireless communication and online features.

In DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, you must travel to the past to save the present, as you restore forgotten lands and battle an unknown evil. Customise your party from more than 50 vocations and level up in turn-based battles to learn new spells and abilities in this timeless quest!

Facts: Rescue the past! Create the future!
Celebrating its 30 year anniversary in Japan, Dragon Quest, along with Final Fantasy, is one of the most popular Japanese RPG series ever created. In addition to the core series from I to X, over 80 other titles have been released such as the Dragon Quest Monsters series. All of these original titles established a formula that would come to influence every following Japanese RPG.

DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past introduces the story of Hero and his friends Prince Kiefer, Maribel, Ruff, Aishe and Sir Mervyn, who have to travel back in time in order to rescue the past and thereby create the future! On their journey, they stumble across more than 400 monsters.

DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is an all-new story, which makes it enjoyable for both fans of and newcomers to the series, as you need no previous knowledge of the other titles. While the story overarches previous Dragon Quest adventures, each territory has a self-contained storyline that is relative to what happened in the past.

The Fragments of the Past that are already being hinted to in the title are so-called tablet fragments that can be used to complete maps in order to access lost continents. A new radar called the fragment detector will make it easy to locate nearby tablets. Once a map is complete, the player will be transported to the location depicted. In DRAGON QUEST VII for Nintendo 3DS, there are items called traveller’s tablets which, when exchanged with other players via StreetPass, can be collected and used to access special dungeons.

While Dragon Quest fans have so far already been able to enlist monsters to their party, they now even have an entire playable monster class that enables them to actually change their character into the monster that they’ve defeated. The classic Dragon Quest Slime will be one of 34 different monsters to choose from.

During the game, you get to meet monsters disguised as humans who would like to live in peace. You can direct them towards the Haven. Monster Meadows on the other hand is a place where monsters befriended during battle can be sent to live peacefully. Monsters you fight will sometimes also give you the opportunity to send them to Monster Meadows once defeated. They can be sent to scout traveller's tablets in caves that only monsters can enter on behalf of the player.

On the other end there’s Ruff – Hero’s bright-eyed, energetic sidekick, who was once a wolf cub and got transformed into a human by some evil magic. During the game, the player undoes the magic which switches the people and animals of L'Arca around. The only ones not affected by this are – of course – Ruff and his mother.
In Dragon Quest VII, a remake of the 2000-PlayStation version, the gameplay alternates between exploration and battle phases. Contrary to the original versions, which featured random encounters, enemies are now visible on the map and will engage the player on sight.

Quests, especially when there are Dragons involved, are long and challenging but always worth the ride. On top of that, there’s post-game content, which makes it one of the longest JRPGs ever created. In case the player is in need of a longer break between two different quests, a recap feature that summarizes past events has been added for players who have not played the game for some time.

The story of Yuji Horii, also known as the father of the Dragon Quest series, started on his path to becoming a game designer in 1982 when he won a prize in a game programming contest run by Square Enix. He eventually decided to team up with Akira Toriyama - the manga artist previously known as the creator of the DragonBall franchise, who is now the designer of the epic Dragon Quest characters and monsters, including Slime, who has appeared in almost every Dragon Quest game.
