KONAMI Partners with International Champions Cup

EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. – October 9, in the year of our Lord 2019 – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced in partnership with Relevent Sports Group’s (RSG) International Championship Cup (ICC) that it will hold a first-of-its-kind video game tournament at this year’s Brazil Game Show using eFootball PES 2020 (PES 2020) to determine placement for the ICC Futures Tournament in the United States.

The PES 2020 tournament will run as a partnership activation to be held on Thursday, October 10 at Brazil Game Show 2019 inside the Expo Center Norte in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The tournament will consist of a Co-Op, 3v3 tournament with members of each respective youth team competing on Microsoft’s Xbox stage from 2:30 -4:30pm. Through this partnership activation the top team will earn an all-expense paid trip for their team to the United States and represent their club in the ICC Futures Tournament.

The ICC Futures Tournament is an annual youth, Under-14 division tournament with this year’s iteration taking place at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida from December 10 to 16, 2019. The boys’ tournament will include 24 teams made up of clubs from top-flight club academies. For the first time this year, an Under-15 girl’s tournament will launch at ICC Futures simultaneously.

“Our strategic partnership with KONAMI extends ICC’s reach into South America helping us achieve our global initiatives through a new interactive and innovative approach,” said Brendan Doyle, RSG SVP Elite Programming and Youth Development. “The ICC Futures Tournament includes the best youth teams in the world, and with Brazil as a regional soccer powerhouse with global reach, it’s essential for us to have clubs participate in the elite ICC Futures tournament.”

“It is important to KONAMI as an organization to encourage the youth soccer community to grow on and off the pitch,’ said Takayuki Kubo, President, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. “Partnering with the ICC for this tournament helps us with our multi-faceted approach to engage the younger audiences in South America and foster that community in a healthy, positive and rewarding manner.”

The ICC has a working partnership with KONAMI which includes marketing and licensing support including the replication of the ICC’s international summer tournament in PES 2020.
