No Kid Hungry Launches Steam Backlog App
July 24, in the year of our Lord 2023
-- The Summer Backlog Battle is a for-fun livestream
fundraising competition to see who can play the most games from
their Steam backlog with all donations going toward No Kid Hungry’s
mission of ending childhood hunger in the United States. From July
24, 2023 until the end of August, creators will go live on their
streaming platform of choice to play the dustiest games in their
collections in the name of fighting hunger.
“The running joke is that we all have dozens of games in our backlog
that we totally meant to play,” says Tyler Worthington, senior
manager, Stream for No Kid Hungry. “But those games are easy to
overlook and forget about with new games coming out all the time.
Unfortunately, childhood hunger is also easy to overlook, so this
event is really about turning good intentions into action that makes
a real difference.”
Though the event is lighthearted, the cause isn’t. One in 8 children
in the United States faces hunger. But thanks to the power of No Kid
Hungry programs and the generosity of gamers – where every $1
donated can help provide 10 meals for kids* – millions of meals have
already reached kids who need them.
“The STREAM initiative from No Kid Hungry has shown that gamers have
big hearts, and I think they’ll play a big part in solving the
hunger crisis in this country,” says Worthington.
For the event, any gamer with a Steam account is welcome to
participate and to fundraise. Creators are encouraged to share the
fundraiser with their audience, and gamers who prefer to stay
off-camera can make a difference by sharing the No Kid Hungry
mission with their friends and family.
*Your donations help support programs that feed kids; No Kid Hungry
does not provide individual meals.
