Video Games The Next Level Announced

Family Friendly Gaming News

Dallas, TX–September 03, in the year of our Lord 2024 -- On the ten-year anniversary of the premiere for Video Games: The Movie, award-winning Dallas-based entertainment company Mediajuice Studios has announced plans to create a sequel to their fan-favorite hit documentary. The original film was written and directed by Jeremy Snead (Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story), narrated by Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) and featured actors, industry luminaries, and gaming celebrities such as Nolan Bushnell (Atari), Al Alcorn (Pong), Phil Spencer (Xbox), Wil Weaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Donald Faison (Scrubs), and many others. Since then, Snead and his team at Mediajuice have doubled and tripled down on the medium, producing multiple gaming documentaries and two award winning docu-series (Unlocked: The World Of Games, Revealed & Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story).

Video Games: The Next Level will dive deeper into the ever-evolving world of videogames and the gaming industry with cinematic documentary storytelling. Since the release of the original film in 2014, the 350-billion-dollar global gaming industry has undergone remarkable transformations. This sequel will explore the rise of new gaming technologies, the explosion of eSports, the impact of streaming platforms, and the ongoing evolution of virtual and augmented reality.

"Reflecting on the past ten years since the release of my film 'Video Games: The Movie’, I'm amazed at how the industry has continued to grow,” said Snead. “What started as a passion project has become a testament to the ever-growing significance of videogames in our lives. It's been an incredible journey seeing the fans continue to embrace the film, and I'm thrilled to continue exploring through this new documentary where the gaming industry is and where it’s going."

The documentary will feature interviews with key industry figures, game developers, eSports champions, and streamers who have become celebrities in their own right. The film will delve further and deeper into the cultural and societal impact of gaming in 2025 and beyond, by examining how games have become the dominant form of entertainment, storytelling, and social interaction touching every aspect of today’s culture.

Video Games: The Next Level will also address the challenges and controversies that have emerged over the past decade, including issues of inclusivity, representation, and the ethical considerations of game development. It will highlight the growing importance of indie games and the democratization of game development through accessible tools and platforms.

Echoing its predecessor, Video Games: The Next Level will celebrate the past, present, and future of gaming, while also looking towards the future and where the industry is headed. Ultimately the documentary will showcase the boundless creativity and innovation that continues to fuel and shape this dynamic and exhilarating entertainment art form.

"The gaming audience has an insatiable appetite and game designers in many ways have to keep up with not only the stories they tell but the technology driving those stories. It's mind blowing to think just how far the gaming industry has come in the short ten years since ‘Video Games: The Movie’ came out,” said narrator Sean Astin. I'm always excited to work with Jeremy, especially on a project that continues to shine a light on this dynamic and evolving world of gaming."
