Ratchet and Clank All 4 One
I have played some
Ratchet & Clank in the past. It is sort of an edgier more violent
platformer than Mario or Sonic. We were offered a Beta version of
Ratchet & Clank All 4 One on the Playstation 3. The online
direction seems strange to me. Especially considering all of the online
problems there are. I have my concerns about Ratchet & Clank All 4 One,
but we can get into that in just a little bit. This game continues along
the story. Players are put in a futuristic world where they must defeat
giant bad guys. Levels are lengthy, and there is plenty to destroy along
the way. In fact that is the best way to earn cash in Ratchet & Clank
All 4 One. Why do you need cash? To purchase more powerful weapons. So
the destruction comes easier.
The level design in Ratchet & Clank All 4 One thus far is fantastic. I
keep asking myself why is this PS3 game online. This should be a normal
traditional offline game. The whole up to four players from wherever in
the world hampers this game in many ways. From someone not standing on
the pad and pressing triangle to then grabbing you with a vacuum gun and
shooting you off a ledge to your death. Players like that make me lose
faith in the entire gaming community. Then there are drop offs, and
internet connection issues. I am not convinced this is the right
direction. In fact my needle is pointing in the opposite direction.
I did find you can play Ratchet & Clank All 4 One alone if you want to.
If you have a short friends list (or no friends on the Playstation 3
like me), you can host your own game, and only allow friends to come and
play with you. There can still be lag issues which is a real bummer.
Bear in mind Ratchet & Clank All 4 One is currently in BETA. So it is
not completely live, and not the finished product. Hence it would not be
fair to review it at this time. I am impressed with the humor and
dialogue, although some can be a bit crude. The biggest concern I have
is all the violence. There are few puzzles that I found to break up the
monotonous digital murdering. It will be interesting to see where this
game goes in the future. I expect the ESRB to give this game an 'E10+'
for Everyone 10+ rating or a 'T' for Teen rating.
