War Room
We go to movie screeners all the time. It
is amazing how many different companies want to reach Family Friendly
Gaming Universe. They give us a free movie before it comes out, and try
to get us excited to work for them for free promoting their product. The
work I am doing on this preview actually has a value ten times that of
what we were given. So we are giving them way more in return than what
they give us. What bothers me is they make hundreds of millions of
dollars off of these movies on the backs of numerous unpaid workers.
Sounds like a violation of James 5:4 to me. To make matters even more
complex, War Room comes from those who have wronged Family Friendly
Gaming in the past. They stiffed us on advertisement payments of a
couple of hundred dollars, and bragged about making over three hundred
million dollars. We asked them to do right, and they refused. We forgave
them, and they have still not done right by us. So I was concerned that
I might go into War Room with a bit of irritation towards those acting
unethically in business.
I feel it is only fair to disclose all of this upfront. If you feel I am
being too harsh on War Room, then attribute it to that. Sherwood
Pictures has their formula for making a movie, and War Room follows that
formula perfectly. Men are shown as being wrong, weak, and bad. Women
are shown as being right and strong. There are numerous evil white male
characters in War Room. There are numerous black females shown as good
in War Room. The main message in War Room is the power of prayer. In
fact I can see viewers coming away from War Room thinking prayer will
get them everything they want. At the same time there are numerous
products being sold related to War Room. The profiteering from teaching
good lessons bothers me on some level. It does not sit well with me as I
pray about War Room.
My first born son was with me at the movie screener of War Room. He
thought War Room was dull. No plot twists, and everything was
predictable. He liked the old black lady character. He also noted a
variety of mistakes, and people around that can be seen in the
background at multiple points in War Room. He also shook his head at the
Kendrick brothers bragging about this being their fifth film, and they
want you to make them money. War Room is not as funny as other recent
Christian movies. War Room is less entertaining than almost every single
Christian video game I have played. I see War Room as being directed at
the black community, especially predominantly black churches. War Room
is not a very good outreach tool. It is mainly focused on believers. The
whole double dutch jump roping felt tacked on at the end.
