Star Wars Jedi Math

Star Wars Jedi Math is one of the most exciting releases of August in the year of our Lord 2008. The Leapster, and Leapster 2 units are proving to be one of the most explosive video machines for families. Sure home consoles like the Nintendo Wii and handhelds like the Nintendo DS are nice, unfortunately children are generally forgotten. Family Friendly Gaming finds it appalling that children are being neglected. Which is why it is wonderful to be able to review games from Leapfrog on the Leapster. Leapfrog remembers the younger members of the family, and provides entertainment that has great lessons in it. Star Wars Jedi Math teaches number recognition, addition, subtraction, and the ability to tell time.

The visual aspects of Star Wars Jedi Math are okay. The characters look pretty simplistic, and have a little above average animations. Most children will enjoy the Star Wars theme especially the light sabers. The children we tested Star Wars Jedi Math on did like the entire Star Wars theme. The action can get violent with light sabers clashing, and laser blasts. As a mother I did not find it to be anything more than background motion.

The music in Star Wars Jedi Math fits this Leapster video game like a hand in a glove. The special effect sounds are also themed from the Star Wars universe, and will remind children of the movies they are not old enough to see yet. Parents will recognize it, and bring back fond (or not so fond) thoughts of the franchise. I enjoyed the music mainly because of the drama involved in it.

If you have a child in kindergarten to second grade then Star Wars Jedi Math will have lengthy replay in your household. My first born is currently in first grade, and he is learning things from this game. The biggest one is the telling time, since he has gotten numbers down. The addition and subtraction are also wonderful lessons to learn. The different skill levels will keep most kids going for a few months at the very least.

Star Wars Jedi Math controls just the way it should on both the Leapster, and the Leapster 2. The instructions this game gives exhibits a very nice intelligent design. The controls also display the same intelligent design. All of the children I had play this Leapster game had fun playing it. I myself had fun with this game.

Star Wars Jedi Math has excellent lessons that any parent of children in the target age range should check out. I am happy to report the entire religious aspect of Star Wars is not included in Star Wars Jedi Math. The characters from the movies are used, and they are teaching kids time, and mathematics. I would love to see sequels to this kind of a game, and it certainly does a lot to raise the image of the video game industry, and Star Wars at the same time.
