Enchanted April
SCORE: 88
The dreary day in and day out in London can get on people. One lady can not handle the rain and depression anymore so she seeks out a friend who can help her share the cost of renting a castle in Italy for the month of April. Needing help with the financial end they bring two other ladies into the mix. The four leave friends, family, and every day life behind to relax, unwind, and enjoy. It does not take long for one of the ladies to feel guilty that she left her husband behind. This place changes them, and their relationships - all for the better. This 1992 release has made it on the Miramax Films Award-Winning Collection. Enchanted April is the kind of a film that is very different from most every other film out there.
There is such a contrast in Enchanted April. The dark, depressing, and exhausting images in rain drenched London are at the beginning of the film. The rest of the film is beautiful, sunny, and alive visuals in Italy. The natural beauty in Enchanted April is all encompassing. This movie may not try to do it, but there is a commentary here on how we should live in harmony with nature, not in mega cites.
Enchanted April contains some adult themes in regards to relationships, and trashy romance novels. Children will not pick up on this because of the way the writers dealt with the issues. There is a lot of reconciliation, and resetting of attitudes in this movie. The music fits the themes of the scenes beautifully.
There is an audio commentary included in Enchanted April. Aside from that the only other extra content is a few movie previews. I have seen so many other releases that contain so much more that I was honestly disappointed by this. I would have liked to have learned more about behind the scenes, location, etc.
Each and every menu screen functions properly in Enchanted April. I found no problems in this regard on this DVD. The story can be slow at times, but really it is about relaxing, and unwinding so I did not mind at all. I enjoyed this film tremendously.
I love how the married
women brought their husbands to experience the wonder, joy, and serenity
of their vacation. There was real healing in relationships in Enchanted
April, and that is also very admirable. This movie has some unexpected
humor, grace, and is very clean. Families will find Enchanted April to
be worth the time.
