Midway Arcade Treasures 2

The WMG enjoys doing retro reviews especially when it deals with an extremely controversial title. Bear in mind this is the kind of a video game that should not be near children, and it may best if they do not even read about it. With that fair warning out of the way we can dig into Midway Arcade Treasures 2. This ultra violent video game has earned its ‘M’ rating for the macabre, morbid, and immature content found within it. Twenty arcade games are included in this compilation that can be found on the Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox. There are a few rare gems in this package, but mainly it is moral filth. The games included are Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, Gauntlet II, Spy Hunter II, Xybots, Narc, APB, Cyberball 2072, Timber, Total Carnage, Pit Fighter, Wizard of Wor, Xenophobe, Primal Rage, Arch Rivals, Rampage World Tour, Kozmik Krooz’r, Championship Sprint, Hard Drivin’, and Wacko. As many of the names exhibit these games are not for the weak of heart.

The graphics in these games range as the eras they were released in. Some of them are really old, and some are newer. All of them look dated though. The other issue is the extreme level of violence in many of these games. Blood, gore, and other repulsive images are thrown all around in too many of these games. Women are used as sexual objects in a way to entice men to lust.

The sounds are as bad as the images, and there is no redeeming traits there either. The music sounds like it is inside a can too often for the WMG’s tastes.

The replay value in Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is hampered by the disgusting content. The only game that had any replay value for the WMG was Cyberball, which was an interesting take on robotic football.

Emulating the arcade can be difficult especially with different kinds of controllers. Midway Arcade Treasures 2 does an okay job of this, but there is some occasional lag that annoys the player. The WMG wishes there was fun playing these ‘treasures.’

It was a chore to play and review Midway Arcade Treasures 2. There are so many bad lessons in here that the WMG is embarrassed to even discuss this game. Lock these ‘treasures’ up please Midway and throw away the key, that is where this belongs.
