Captain America Super Soldier
SCORE: 72
Captain America has been one of my heroes
for an eon. He fights for America, and combats evil. In many ways
Captain America is what many young men want to be. Especially those that
consider joining the military. We had dreams of fighting evil and
defeating them. Sure Captain America is not real, and the military has a
different life than what the comic books and movies show. But still
there is something about Captain America.
I jumped at the opportunity of reviewing Captain America Super Soldier
on the Nintendo DS when a reviewable copy came into Family Friendly
Gaming. Sega and Marvel have a nice connection in their super hero video
games. Okay so not every one of those games have been great, but they
offer some entertainment value. Captain America Super Soldier is one of
their better releases in my opinion.
Captain America Super Soldier includes violence. There is no way around
it. The evil Hydra characters do not roll over. It would be nice if they
put their hands up and surrendered like the Iraqi soldiers in the Gulf
War. Maybe someone will make a video game with that concept some day.
Anywho! Sega did a great job of breaking up the violence with traps,
jumps, and stealth missions. The stealth missions are my favorite.
The voice acting in Captain America Super Soldier is top notch. The
music got me ready to throw that shield at the enemies. The only thing
that ruins the audio department for me is the bad language. It does not
fit this game, and could have been left on the cutting room floor. There
are real people who can have intense situations without using bad
language. I would love for a video game to reinforce that truth some
day.
Captain America Super Soldier has little level after little level that
string together. These levels fit a hand held device perfectly. I hate
Nintendo DS games that make me sit through a level for fifteen minutes
or more. That is way too long. Captain America Super Soldier on the DS
makes sure levels can be beaten quickly. At other times I died along the
way so that gave me a point to stop as well.
Sega really mixes things up in Captain America Super Soldier eloquently.
I would play an exploration level, then a talking level, then a fighting
level, then a stealth level. I had to use the touch screen to perform
certain super feats. This really helps with the violence which can get
repetitive. I enjoyed the majority of the dialogue in Captain America
Super Soldier. This added a level of connection to this game and
franchise.
Captain America Super Soldier is about fighting evil so they do not take
over the world. Our soldiers do this on a daily basis. There are forces
of evil in this world and they do not stop because we ask nicely.
Something on the side of good has to stand up to them. This is what I
learned from Captain America Super Soldier. I enjoyed the mixture of
game play in Captain America Super Soldier, and hope for sequels in the
future.
