Dumbo 70th Anniversary
SCORE: 92
Happy 70th Anniversary Dumbo! There are
few things that can stay relevant that long. Dumbo has stayed relevant.
The storyline is something that each and every person can relate to. You
may have had big ears when you were a kid. Or there was some other
physical characteristic that kids made fun of. Adults can relate to the
mother and the mouse. Both characters protect Dumbo, and stand up for
him.
Dumbo 70th Anniversary has gone through all new digital restoration.
Which helps improve the graphics. With that said the images are not at
the artistic quality of say Bambi. There are characters in Dumbo 70th
Anniversary that smoke and drink. With all of that stated I do like how
Dumbo 70th Anniversary looks. Many of the areas are more simple than
other Disney films from that era.
The voice actors really knew how to impart emotional responses. I could
tell when other characters were angry or upset. Want to know something
amazing about Dumbo 70th Anniversary? Dumbo does not speak. That is
right, the main character does not say a word. Others talk for him.
Others defend him when he is being mocked. And they are the ones who
illicit the emotional responses. They are the ones that teach the
bullies a lesson or two.
You know this is Disney, and they have set the standard for bonus
features. Dumbo 70th Anniversary does not disappoint in this regard.
There is a deleted scene, and a delete song that has never been seen
before. There is a celebrating Dumbo, audio commentary, the ride,
animated shorts, art galleries, and many more. The movie is only
sixty-three minutes long, but you will spend more time on the bonus
features. Which helps even out the cost of the package.
Family Friendly Gaming was provided the Blu-ray + DVD package. It is
great to see these combo packs continuing on. They help families who are
moving into Blu-ray, but still have DVD players. Our family is like
that, and probably will be for some time.
Dumbo is an outcast. His mother gets taken, and he is mocked for his big
ears. He is sad for portions of Dumbo 70th Anniversary. He does have a
wonderful friend who helps him realize his potential. He becomes a
flying elephant. At that point he is a major star, and gets his mother
out of lock up. I wanted to ring the necks of the gossiping hag
elephants. The emotions used in Dumbo 70th Anniversary are strong. Which
is probably why to this day people can still relate to this movie.
It was a real honor and a pleasure for me to be able to review Dumbo
70th Anniversary. Disney has made a major impact over the decades on
family friendly films. It is great to see their roots, and a continued
acknowledgment of their past. The behind the scenes features are
wonderful - especially in learning about how this film was done.
There are some important lessons in Dumbo 70th Anniversary. First off
bullying is wrong. God made us different and to mock someone's
difference is plain wrong. It is great to stand up for those who can not
stand up for themselves. Finally family and friends can come along side,
and help during difficult times.
