Gem Quest 4 Elements
SCORE: 80
There is one constant when it comes to
Storm City Games. They provide unique gaming experiences. Gem Quest 4
Elements is no exception to that history. This Nintendo DS game is a
puzzle game with a different twist. First off you have to match three of
a kind. But it is not some mindless game where we have to match three of
a kind and more come down. The levels have a liquid which the player
must get to a certain area. Sounds pretty simple huh?
To be completely transparent I did not get the concept of Gem Quest 4
Elements at first. I had to go the foremost gaming expert - my husband.
I know this may give him a big head, but he is a complete wizard with
figuring out how a video game works. He has an insight that borders on
genius. He routinely makes others look silly in quickly he can learn
something new. I have learned that he does not try to make the rest of
us look mundane - he is just gifted. It also helps that he encourages me
even when I can't see it.
The visuals in Gem Quest 4 Elements are colorful. There are some levels
where hidden items must be found, and they have some nice artwork.
Reaching the end of a level is a nice treat. For example a tree grows in
the earth book. Gem Quest 4 Elements includes images of mythical
creatures. Things like dragons, dwarves, elves, and more. Gem Quest 4
Elements includes a magical element based on the four elements.
The music in Gem Quest 4 Elements is passable. I listened to it, and it
was okay. I was not offended or irritated by it. On the other side I was
not overly impressed with it either. The whole magic book thing was
weird in my opinion. I am not into that fantasy stuff, and it is a weird
mixture with the puzzle genre. Like I said before Storm City Games
brings unique experiences.
There are enough levels to keep most puzzle gamers engaged for a few
weeks at least. The levels start out easy, but become more difficult as
the player progresses. Some blocks are frozen, or there are boulders in
the way. We were provided a reviewable copy of Gem Quest 4 Elements. I
checked the price online and feel it is a fair price for the amount of
content in this hand held video game.
Yes the gameplay perplexed me at first. Once I knew how to play Gem
Quest 4 Elements, I had fun. There are a few frustrating levels in this
Nintendo DS game, but most can be solved in the time allotted. I had
thought there was nothing new for the match three or more. Obviously I
was wrong. Gem Quest 4 Elements shows there is a new way to play this
style of game.
The red liquid in the fire book looks like blood to me. The green liquid
in the earth book works in my opinion. Gem Quest 4 Elements taught me to
think about how to move the liquid where it needed to go. The magical
element, and mythical creatures adds an unsettling aspect to this DS
game. At least for me. If you like those things then you will be right
at home in Gem Quest 4 Elements.
