Invizimals Shadow Zone
SCORE: 66
Invizimals Shadow Zone is the sequel to
the interesting and innovative Invizimals. Ya'll may remember my review
of the original. There were a few issues with it, that Sony has improved
upon them in Invizimals Shadow Zone. The concept is the same - find these
hidden animals, capture them, and then have them fight for you. Yeah I
know that concept has never been used in our industry before. :)
Two important things to be aware of with Invizimals Shadow Zone. You
need the capture card from the first game, and the camera for the
Playstation Portable (PSP). Once you have those two things, a PSP, and
the game you are ready to go monster hunting. But before you do, there
are videos to watch. Yes the story is told in real people in videos
explaining things to you. And treating you like a real, and important
person.
Invizimals Shadow Zone tells us what to look for. Like find something
that is light blue, and put the trap card on it. Then we go about the
process of capturing the Invizimal. Different Invizimals require
different things to be done. Break one free from rocks, blow into the
microphone for another. These keep Invizimals Shadow Zone very fresh.
The creatures in Invizimals Shadow Zone range from friendly to hideous.
The videos where the story is told is top notch. I thought I was
watching television or a DVD on this little screen. I appreciate how
Invizimals Shadow Zone does this. It makes this entire world seem
believable. Sort of a peek into the spiritual world.
The dialogue in Invizimals Shadow Zone is better than the first. It does
not try to be funny in a corny way as often. At times I chuckled at the
various characters and their expressions. Invizimals Shadow Zone also
picks things up right from the start. Unlike the first game that started
us in a lab and slowly moved. Invizimals Shadow Zone moves much quicker.
Fighting with the Invizimals Shadow Zone requires some strategy, but
timing is more important. I won or lost battles based on timing.
Invizimals Shadow Zone will ask if you played the original. If you
answer yes, then expect less help. The game acts like you remember
everything from the original, and are ready to go.
Invizimals Shadow Zone does have some frustrating parts. Trying to catch
certain Invizimals can be challenging. I also found that battles can get
irritating if your timing is off. I still wonder what this franchise
would look like if it relied less on the camera and where ever the
player currently is. The plus side to Invizimals Shadow Zone if you will
get up and move around. Which can be frustrating if you are in a plane,
car, train, subway, or on a bus. Especially if you need to find a color
that is not in your vicinity.
