Pac-Man Party

We work tirelessly, and do not bother to keep track of hours making sure we can bring all of the big titles to you our wonderful readers. There are games that fall through the cracks, or for whatever strange reason we do not get a copy of. Pac-Man Party impressed me at E3 2010, and we reported on it online and in the magazine. Through the huge Christmas rush, and all those games coming in, we realized that Pac-Man Party did not arrive. So I got it on our purchase list, and once the funds had come in, got to playing it. This party game is fantastic for families. Pac-Man, the ghosts, and some other odd characters play a fun, and interesting party game. There are different ways to get your numbers. That blase roll your dice is replaced by popping balloons with numbers, throwing a dart at a rotating dart board, and more. From there you get to go that many spaces. If there is nothing there then you can build a castle. If there is another players castle, then a mini game ensues where the winner gets the castle. If you are the attack and lose, then you lose some of your cookies. Getting to a certain amount of cookies is the goal of Pac-Man Party. A full rotation of the board gives you so many cookies based on how many castles you have.

The graphics are very bright and colorful in Pac-Man Party. The ghost characters look friendly enough, and there is a lot of variety in the mini games. There is some violence as players can get knocked into a furnace and come running out looking burned. If you have played Mario Party games, then you know what to expect from the mini game violence. I am not clear as to why Mario Party 8 got an ‘E’ rating, and this game got an ‘E10+’ rating. Essentially they have the same violence level. Technically Pac-Man Party is a little lower.

The sounds in Pac-Man Party are quirky, but I like them. The sounds the various characters make in the story mode were different, and for some reason I enjoyed them. The music is festive, and enhanced the fun of Pac-Man Party.

There are five worlds, and fifty mini games in Pac-Man Party. If that were not enough Namco Bandai included original arcade versions of Pac-Man, Dig Dug, and Galaga. Four family members can enjoy Pac-Man Party at the same time, and this is one fun party game. I spent my own scraped together dollars for Pac-Man Party, and feel my money was well spent.

Sure Pac-Man Party is a Mario Party clone. It is such a good one, and there are so many interesting and different things done that I really enjoyed it. The balance in Pac-Man Party is tremendous. There are instructions before every single mini game explaining how to play it. This helps family members who are not familiar with what they need to be doing.

I hope Namco Bandai continues this franchise in the future. I learned various lessons (like building castles next to one another) in Pac-Man Party, and had a lot of fun playing. All of us enjoyed Pac-Man Party for its unique mini games, and the feel of this Wii game.
