Purr Pals

There was a huge clamor in the video game industry for a cats related video game after Nintendogs was originally released. Quite a few developers came up with cat related video games. The confident ones sent Family Friendly Gaming reviewable copies. Crave Entertainment did not send Purr Pals to us, I had to purchase the game myself. The cover is all cute and cuddly. I hoped the game would be as well. Players pick a cat, and then watch it explore the house. There are also some mini games included. The cats are also pretty needy.

The rooms in the house look pretty good. I enjoyed that. The cats also look nice as well. The animation of the cats in Purr Pals is a little sketchy. The models for the cats has something off when watching them walk around. I found myself fighting with the camera while playing Purr Pals. This frustration was not needed in my opinion. Certain visuals get in the way of gameplay in some of the mini games. The perfect example is the ping pong mini game.

The cats have some nice realistic sounds to them. I enjoyed the purring when I was petting, and the crunching as they were being fed. These things eat a lot very often. I started to wonder if the goal was to produce a fat cat. Hitting the cat with the water pistol will produce an irritating sound, and I am not sure it did much in terms of training it to stay off the couch.

Purr Pals contains quite a few items, and various play thing that can be purchased. The problem is you get so little money for various mini games that it takes forever to earn enough. The way the cats eat you will find yourself spending money on that all too frequent. There are various rooms in the house, and numerous mini games to play. I got Purr Pals for a very cheap price, but still feel like my money was wasted.

I really wanted to have fun with Purr Pals. I hoped I was finding a diamond in the rough. Since Purr Pals requires players to spend so much time in the mini games, they need to be good. Problem is they are not. I had irritation after frustration with many of the mini games. I would get a perfect score on some and get little money for my trouble.

The moral and ethical content in Purr Pals is very clean. You are taking care of an animal, and playing with it. I find no issues with it. I just wish other aspects of this home console game had been better. I would like to see this franchise continue, as long as there are numerous upgrades. Cat lovers will be disappointed in Purr Pals.
