Rec Room Games

Family Friendly Gaming was provided with a pre-release version of Rec Room Games on the Nintendo DS. This is a mini game compilation with twenty games in it. The twenty games are Air Hockey, Alley Ball, Beanbag Toss (Tic Tac Toe), Box Maze, Bowling, Cards, Chinese Checkers, Darts, Dodgeball, Flying Disk, Foosball, Gorodki, Ladder Toss, Peg, Ring Toss, Rubber Band Sharpshooting, Table Hockey, Table Tennis, Trashcan Basketball, and Smack-A-Squirrel. Nice list of game eh?

The graphics range in Rec Room Games. Some of these games look great, and animate nicely. I loved the Beanbag Toss (Tic Tac Toe). Other games are small looking like Chinese Checkers. The rooms these games are played in do not look that great. I think a bit too much was being done graphically. Bowling did not look great visually, but Table Hockey did. It is sort of hit and miss. The nice thing is I did not find any offensive graphics while I was playing Rec Room Games on the DS.

When I started playing Rec Room Games I hated the music. I was very unhappy with it. Then I played for some time, and started enjoying the special effect sounds in various mini games. The next thing I knew I was actually enjoying the music in Rec Room Games as well. So it grew on me over time. The computer is near flawless, which irritated me to no end.

The collection of the twenty mini games in Rec Room Games is an eclectic grouping. The thing is I enjoyed playing them. Certain ones are very unique, and I do not recall ever playing them in video game fashion before. Others have been done numerous times in numerous games. The price tag for Rec Room Games is reasonable in my opinion.

I enjoyed many of the mini games in Rec Room Games. Many of the mini games in Rec Room Games control by flicking from the bottom screen up towards the top screen. These controls work as expected. I do believe they could have worked better in a few instances. In other words I see some room for improvement with the controls. Overall I was able to pick up the games and succeed.

Families can learn lessons in judging distance, and moving the stylus in the right direction to score the most points. There are places all across America where many of these games can be played in person. Families can get together and play Rec Room Games together. Up to four players can enjoy certain mini games in Rec Room Games at the same time. Mini game compilations are a crowded field. The games in Rec Room Games are different enough to draw attention.
