Spongebob Squigglepants
SCORE: 85
The uDraw is a
fantastic piece of technology that fits the Wii masterfully. So I was
very happy to see Spongebob Squigglepants come in from our friends over
at THQ. This game utilizes all aspects of the uDraw, mixes in Spongebob,
and tops it off with over one hundred nano games. Nano games? Think of
the WarioWare games. Players are given a few seconds to complete a
specific task.
Have you been following the weekly press releases with a new art style?
We have been running them here at Family Friendly Gaming. They exhibit
the range of the graphics in Spongebob Squigglepants. There is an
amazing blending of various graphical styles in Spongebob Squigglepants.
The artistic nature to them is one of the draws of this home console
game.
Spongebob Squigglepants is hosted by a comical pirate. Well at least he
tries really hard to be comical. These videos can get old, and
irritating especially if you are having problems defeating a certain
area. In one of these videos he tells the player they are a loser. The
saving grace is the ending video. He is actually quite funny in it. The
aquatic comments come across as campy. I let children sample these
videos, and they loved the ending. They did not like him calling them a
loser. The music ranges in Spongebob Squigglepants, and fits the various
different themes.
I was able to beat Spongebob Squigglepants in under an hour. But at that
point I was just over fifty percent through with this game. There are
multiple remix modes, and additional content to unlock. But the real
extra is the drawing portion of Spongebob Squigglepants. Players can
create their own doodles, and use various Spongebob characters in their
artwork. I enjoyed this aspect of Spongebob Squigglepants. I checked the
price of Spongebob Squigglepants online and it is very reasonable.
The key to victory in Spongebob Squigglepants is paying attention to
what the controls will be for the upcoming nano game. From there it
comes down to how quickly you can figure out how to properly play it.
Certain games took me multiple attempts, and others I got right the
first try. I had fun playing these games. Certain ones have cartoon
violence in various forms. The games come randomly which can be a good
thing or a bad thing. If you get a game you are good at, it will much
easier. If you get games you have problems with then you may be seeing a
video of the pirate.
Spongebob is an interesting character. I know people who love the
franchise, and others who refuse to have anything to do anything with
it. I am somewhere in the middle. I see very little morally or ethically
wrong with Spongebob Squigglepants. The retro style area is wonderful
for families. The B-Movie area was not so pleasant. The artistic areas
were fine. The punk rock area was not as bad as I expected. The thing
about Spongebob Squigglepants is it ranges across multiple styles. I
learned to quickly identify what was expected of me, and to fulfill it.
I enjoyed my time with Spongebob Squigglepants.
