Tangled

I was talking to a friend recently who thought Disney has lost their touch over recent years. I disagreed, and Tangled is a movie that I submit as evidence. This Rapunzel retelling is interesting. A magical flower heals the pregnant queen, and she passes it to her daughter. The daughter's hair has the power to heal. An old nasty lady knew about the flower, and finds out about the hair. She wants to stay young forever, and does not care about anyone else.

The animation in Tangled is top notch. The technology to create her hair is astounding. The horse that acts like a dog (Maximus), and the chameleon are great animal characters with a lot of range. Especially the horse. Tangled includes some very memorable scenes like the lanterns. There is some cartoon violence that mainly involves skillets. Skillets are used as weapons.

Mother knows best is a song that is still stuck in my head. Tangled contains numerous humorous scenes that touch all ages of the family. Pascal is a great character in Tangled. Our kids enjoyed his humor as well as all the skillet humor. There is one scene with some scary looking characters who break out into an amazing song. Flynn Rider is a criminal, who falls into the right place at the right time.

Tangled contains deleted scenes, the making of a fairy tale, original storybook openings, and more. I really liked the commercials that were done in various ways. Kids enjoy Tangled, and I know adults do as well. We have already watched this film numerous times. Family Friendly Gaming was provided with the Blu-ray + DVD package. The Blu-ray includes more bonus features than the DVD, which is something I would expect.

Tangled is sort of like an onion. There are layers upon layers in the story. A viewer can watch it, and enjoy it for what it is. Others can dig a little deeper and find some interesting topics. Selfishness is touched upon in Tangled, as well as honesty, doing the right thing, and love. The thief turns his back on the life of crime, and the princess discovers the truth to her past. She has to disobey, but that disobedience is to her kidnapper.

The humanity and the humor of Tangled is what sticks out to me. Most of the characters do the right thing in this movie, and I really appreciate that. The most evil character in Tangled gets her own reward. What makes Tangled so sad is it is the kind of thing that could happen. If there were some magic to keep us young forever, there would be people who would give everything to attain it. They would do anything, say anything, and imprison anyone. Thankfully good triumphs over evil in the end.
