WORLD HEROES
SCORE: 60

I do not play many fighting
games anymore. One of the biggest reasons is the results from the
scientific research into how they impact our minds. Another reason is
because the computer cheats. Hardcore gamers will know exactly what I am
talking about. Certain strategies will work for awhile and then dry on
up. Which leaves players trying to find something else that works. With
only so many continues - well it leads to frustration.

WORLD HEROES is a NEO GEO port that SNK Playmore USA Corp has released
on the Wii, Playstation 3, and Playstation Portable. Family Friendly
Gaming was provided a code for this review, and I used the Playstation 3
version. This fighting game takes eight historic and generally violent
figures to fight it out. WORLD HEROES is a lot like the Street Fighter
		franchise just not as polished.

The graphics in WORLD HEROES certainly show their age. The characters
look decent. They also animate at a nice frame rate. As I played WORLD
HEROES I reminded myself of this game's age. It is from the Street
Fighter II era. It is not a true clone since SNK tried some different
things. More on that coming up. The core issue families will have with
WORLD HEROES is the violence. I love how the female character is dressed
appropriately. The violence against women is diminished since she is the
		only female character.

The music in WORLD HEROES is upbeat and energetic. The characters have
various things they say when they win a match. There is some verbal
jabbing going on. Other comments expose specific insecurities. When
Janne wins she makes a comment about being stuck in the kitchen. She
obviously has a chip on her shoulder. There are some disturbing sounds
in the death matches, and the fighting sounds get redundant.

WORLD HEROES only has eight characters so that can limit the replay.
There is online and local multiplayer for those that like to bash each
others faces in (inside a video game). The price for the PS3 is
currently $8.99, and the PSP is $6.99. That is cheaper than purchasing a
NEO GEO and the game. It is also on a lot newer machine. I am not a big
fighting fan so it is difficult for me to decide if the price is right
or not. I leave that in your hands.

I had done some research into WORLD HEROES and expected the controls to
be horrible. I was pleasantly surprised. Now there are a few things that
make little sense to me - like how the game decides who knocks who out
of a special attack. I did learn to exploit those things. The pace in
WORLD HEROES is slower than modern day fighters. The death match modes
are interesting especially in the levels where knocking an enemy into
the edge hurts them. Things like catching on fire, getting electrocuted
and hitting spikes. There are three buttons used in WORLD HEROES
(excluding moving around). A punch, a kick and a throw.

Speaking of throws, why is it that the computer only wants to throw when
		I am trying to?

Fighting games teach to get them before they get you. Some spots in
WORLD HEROES teach to counter-attack instead of being aggressive. This
worked some times on some characters and other times it did not. WORLD
HEROES is not a game that teaches mercy. It teaches to fight evil with
your fists and feet. Gamers can also pick evil characters to fight with
which really muddies the moral waters.

WORLD HEROES has been an interesting trip down memory lane. If SNK
Playmore USA Corp is taking requests I would like to see Crystalis 2,
and Crossed Swords released in the future.
