Balloon Pop Remix

Who knew that popping balloons could be so much fun? Balloon Pop Remix is one fun little puzzle game on the Nintendo 3DS. We pop two or more balloons to create strings of the same colored balloons. That means the balloons we get rid of do not need to match. I had to adapt my mind to deal with this. I am used to matching three or more by touching and drawing on them. Balloon Pop Remix has me remove what is in the way so three or more can match.

The 3D effects in Balloon Pop Remix are okay. The shaking motion of certain objects feels strange at first. Especially when they are in the front and we are in the back. The balloons are on the small side in this hand held video game. That way more can be put on the screen. Most of the action in Balloon Pop Remix happens on the bottom screen which makes the top screen (the one with the 3D) moot.

Balloon Pop Remix has stunning music. I love listening to it. It makes me think of fun things like going to the circus. Combos are frequent in Balloon Pop Remix. We can see some serious fireworks and celebrations when those mega combos start to build up. Balloon Pop Remix will not let us make any other moves until it has finished with all the combos. I am not overly fond of that limitation.

Balloon Pop Remix has an on screen tutorial that explains how to play it. Even with that I still do not get certain aspects of this game at first. Halfway through a level (in story mode) had me perform a mission in sixty seconds. I had to match so many of a certain colored balloon. The color is random so no planning ahead. After a couple of failures I figured out what this 3DS game wanted.

The characters on the top screen is a little alien who has crash landed on our planet. He will walk, run or sprint based on how filled the mana bar is. The higher we have it filled the faster he moves along the path. The goal is to get him to the end of the level. The bar will drop every time we pop balloons. If it gets all the way to the bottom we lose. This may sound strange in words, but trust me in application Balloon Pop Remix works marvelously well.

Family Friendly Gaming was provided a download code so I could play and review Balloon Pop Remix. I give thanks that I was allowed to play and review this Nintendo 3DS title. It is a little different twist on the puzzle genre that is fun. I hope to see more games like this from UFO Interactive Games in the coming years.
